Bug: Plex HTPC is shrunk to Quarter Screen Size if AVR or TV is Switched Off

Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: 1.71.0.334

Hello all

I Hope you are Well.

My HTPC is connected to a Marantz AVR and then to an LG TV. and runs Windows 11, all up to Date including Display Drivers.

My HTPC is on 24/7 so only the AVR and TV gets Switched Off.

When the AVR and TV is Switched Off and then later Switched On, Plex HTPC is Shrunk to a Quarter of the Screen Size appearing in the Upper Left of the Screen requiring Plex HTPC to be Closed and Reopened.

Also, when returning after the AVR and TV are Switched On again Plex HTPC shows the Playback Error Screen.

Has anyone come across this Issue?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Hello all

Well, it seems I may have found a solution to this Issue, I just need to Test it for longer to see if it holds but currently it is Working.

It basically requires Editing the Registry of Windows 11 to alter the Display Resolution used when the PC goes to Sleep, or, in my case, when the AVR or TV is Switched OFF.

I will not Post it here as it is not advisable to Edit the Registry, however, if anyone would like the Instructions, Please let me know.

Kevin

Wow, you seem to have lots of issues with Plex HTPC based on all your threads.

Hope they all get resolved for you. I don’t see many responses so can only assume they are isolated incidents ?

Hello

I only really have, or had, Two Issues, this one seems to be related to the Display Drivers which I Fixed by Editing the Display Settings for the Dummy Display used by Windows 11 when it detects that no Display is attached, i.e. when the Tv, or AVR, is Switched Off.

Everything else is working as it should.

Thanks

Kevin

Hello

I think I managed to resolve the Issue with the Screen being Resized to the Top Left Quarter of the Screen by following these Steps:

1 Open Registry Editor (as Admin) to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\

2 Delete all entries in this Path.

3 Restart PC.

4 After Restart, re-open Registry Editor to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\

There should be one Registry entry.

Click on Tree Arrow, then Click on Second Arrow to View the Values.

By clicking on each 00 the values will be displayed on the right side of Registry Editor.

Note that there are some Value Pairs that match the Resolution of your Display.

5 Switch Off AVR and then Switch it On again.

6 Open Registry Editor to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\

There will now be a Second Entry.

This is a Dummy Monitor Entry created by Windows for when a Monitor is not present, i.e. when I Switch Off the AVR.

It has the same Value Pairs as before, but with incorrect Resolutions for the Display.

In my case the Values were for 1920 x 1080, hence why PlexHTPC was shrunk to a Quarter Screen as my Display is 3840 x 2160.

7 Change the values in the Dummy Monitor Registry Key to match the Real Monitor Resolution, i.e. 3840 x 2160 rather than 1920 x 1080..

8 Restart

I have not had the Issue with PlexHTPC being Shrunk to Quarter Screen Size since I made the above changes.

Thanks

Kevin
