Please bear with me - my first ever problem request here!
I’ve been having this issue for many months on both PC media server and now also on PLEX on a mac…
Movie Collection - 1000+ movies (split into movies, movies-children, movies-documentary)
The problem is that the same 20 or so movies, keep getting listed in the library as recently added and appear as new movies
And the problem is ONLY for the main Movies directory of my collection - 12 other directories are perfectly fine without movies appearing with new dates
I have no other library management working on the movie directories besides the initial created (data gathered by TinyMediaManager)
Any new movies are scraped perfectly by Plex - but after a few days, the same 15-20old movies appear on top of the recently added!
My Scanner for the folders are Plex Movie Scanner
My Agent is The Movie Database (With LocalMediaAssets, PlexMovie, FanArt, TheMovieDB as order of agents)
I’ve tried to start over several times with new db, fresh settings, move PLEX from PC to Mac, several variations of agents and their order.
Debug logs are enabled
Any hints to specific log, where i can see WHY the server insists on listing the same movies as new ?
I have now installed a KODI setup besides my PLEX server and pointed it to the same 13 movie directories and the problem is NOT visible here. Only new movies are listed as new.
So i’m fairly confident that the issue is only with Kodi’s agents and scrapers.

Sadly - the issue is not with any changes to any of the date possibilities on the video files them selves…

So the affected movies all are stored in the same folder?
Do you use any form of JBOD or software RAID or ‘drive Pooling’?
Any new movies are scraped perfectly by Plex - but after a few days, the same 15-20old movies appear on top of the recently added!
Please post the Plex XML info of an affected item after it appears again “as new”.
I understand you are not using the default Plex metadata agents but installed the 3rd party nfo importers ?

Of course the PLEX installation has been running fine the last few days without acting up, as it has otherwise done for many months.
I’ll update this post with the XML info as soon as one of the Old/new movies start appearing at the top of RecentlyAdded again…
The affected movies are all in their own sub-folders with the movie title, and are placed on a Synology NAS SMB file share called Movies.

I can’t help but notice, that the below XML snip from the movie info contains double entries ! - might this have something to do with it ?

There is nothing bad in this. All looking regular.

There is only 1 double entry, and I think if you Refresh the movie it will vanish. (old issue, which is expected to be fixed now)

I just want to say that my server has been doing this as well for about 20 movies that are fairly old. As I added newer movies they show before the 20 that bumped up to new. Now months later it did it again and the same 20 movies are suddenly brand new again.
When this happened, the server started rebuilding the entire library. Must have faulted and decided to rebuild the library. The file date on the “new” movies have a file date that is older by over a year. I have two movie directories and both have well over 500 movies in them.
I read that Plex gets confused if there are more than 70 movies in a folder and instead of dealing with the logistics of making new directories every few months, I decided to wait until you fine engineers figure the problem out…
Just 2 cents. Hope it helps the cause!!! I don’t know how to do logs, but if you really need them. Let me know and i’ll research it…

This typically happens when you have trash set to automatic dump and your storage goes missing - for any number of reasons. Plex auto dumps the trash and your storage comes back to Earth. Plex says: ‘Hey! New Stuff!’
There are ways to combat this situation - at the top of the list is finding out why your storage is blinking on and off and while that investigation is underway turning off auto trash dumping:
Plexweb/Settings/Server/Library/
disengage ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’.

Drag zip to message window and drop it.
Here are my logs. If this helps. I changed the trash setting and will rebuild the database and see whats up!!
I found a resolution for me (anyways).
Stop the Plex Server
I deleted all the library information by going to (win10)
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\
and deleting every folder ad sub folder.
Restart the Plex Server
This not only removed the metadata and associated info, but also removed the history of that library (when added and where you left off)… It doesn’t remove the actually media file.
After doing this, I had to re-add the libraries within the server web app and reassign library access to my users.
After this and a very long rebuilding process. Everything came back as it should, according to the file date.
I had the same issue and couldn’t figure it out. Today I looked at the video details and for some reason the modified date was set in 2106. So plex thought it was new. I downloaded attribute changer and changed it to 2016 so it wasn’t new anymore now the problem is fixed.
