[BUG] “Refresh Rate Switch” feature fails to activate when playing content directly from the Android TV homescreen

When launching content directly from Android TV homescreen “channels,” the “Refresh Rate Switch” feature fails to activate, and 23.976p content will play at 59.940p instead.

The issue occurs both with the “Play Next” and “Plex” Android TV homescreen “channels.”

Opening the Plex app and playing from there works fine.

I’m using the Shield 2019 Pro as both server and player.

I’m using the latest version of Shield Experience and the latest version of Plex server/app.

I open the shield display settings and it shows the current refresh rate, etc.

menu > Device Preferences > Display & Sound > Resolution

It does.

That means your shield is playing that content at 59.940Hz.

No, my shield (2019) also changes the refresh rate for both Plex and Kodi. A 23.976fps movie will change my shield from the default 59.94Hz to 23.976Hz. That menu item reflects the change. It reverts back when I stop the movie.

It’s enabled in Plex. The shield switches automatically on playback. My 25fps content shows 50Hz, for example.

I haven’t launched from the home screen in a while, because it didn’t always enable refresh rate switching. I could visually tell and the shield menu confirmed it. I only launch from within the app now.

I’m curious how are you confirming your IPTV fps? It would be odd to package 25fps into 59.94fps, but I have seen worse atrocities (cough… BBC America app… cough)

I’m not super familiar with this forum. Given this is a known bug, is there a way to escalate to get even just comment from plex?

Especially given we’re plex pass holders…
