I have to change the quality on most 10bit hevc videos to get them to play.
When I start the video on “Convert Automatically”, the video is very choppy and comes over in a 3.5Mbps bitrate. The video never improves over this nor tries to go to a higher bitrate. I then switch to original quality and then back to convert automatically and the video will play fine at 12mbps. Sometimes the next video will play correctly, sometimes the next video will be completely black then it will skip that video and move to the next, having marked it played. This is a number of undesirable effects.
I don’t want to skip videos and mark them played.
If the bitrate starts out very low (and choppy) then it should try to find a higher, more playable bitrate.
If the video can’t be played, it’s better to exit than to go to the next one.
There shouldn’t be a need to switch back and forth on video qualities to get the conversion to work correctly.
My player is set to convert automatically, though I’ve tried original quality and on the server: with and without both h/w acceleration checkboxes.
I’m running plex as an ubuntu vm on esxi server with e5 xeons and all encodings on ramdisk.
