Original quality skips frames however when selecting automatic conversion (higher mbps) plays fine

Hey all, When using app.plex.tv on a laptop on same network (wifi) suddenly original quality (40mbps) plays became choppy. However when I select automatic conversion from the playback settings it does plays fine at a 56mbps. Very strange due to the higher mbps. Somebody has an idea how this is possible? Can I force PLEX to use the automatic conversion each time? And why a higher mbps?

Plex server on a ryzen 2 2200g, transcoding on an SSD, movie files on HDD.

Sounds like something with the original file is causing the issue. With the auto conversion enabled, PMS is transcoding the file. Since transcoding always losses some quality, it can increase the bitrate a bit to help maintain the quality. The transcode is possibly smoothing out the video and removing the choppy playback.

Well its actually suddenly with all my files. Never had that issue before. If I lower the quality it does work fine. Never works with the original file format. When using the standalone app it does run the original file quality fine. Its apparently only with the web app it does occur

The player for the Web App is not as robust as the player used with PMP. Apples and oranges here.

Same issue as this thread:

I can say for certain that it has nothing to do with the files. This has been happening to me on Android and iOS for the last few months. It only recently started happening on the web player after I upgraded to Windows Server 2016. This happens with every media file. I have 2k movies and 200 shows. Happens on every file I’ve tested. My users have also complained about this happening.
