[bug] spacebar to play/pause in Linux

The Web Player under Linux (Chrome and Firefox on Mint 17.3) will pause, then immediately un-pause any playback. The vice-versa is also true: if the start state is paused, it will un-pause then immediately re-pause any playback.

The behavior reminds me of when I’d accidentally use the same bit of code for both keydown and keyup events, but I’d speculate that the cause here is how Linux sends the keypressed event to the browser, so some os-specific logic might be in order.

clarification: “spacebar will pause, then immediately un-pause any playback…”

What version of the Plex Web app do you have? I have Plex Web 2.8.1 on Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64 bit, and this problem does not occur using Firefox 48.0.

Sorry for the delay. I’ve noticed that the issue is intermittent and it took me a while to suss out the cause.

Steps to reproduce:
start playback on something
CLICK pause
use spacebar to unpause - the ‘play/pause’ button has the focus in the browser, so the click signal gets sent.

i’m having this same bug on windows with firefox. i press spacebar to pause and it pauses and immediately unpauses. if a try to unpause while it’s paused it will unpause and immediately pause again. this doesn’t happen in chrome. i dunno if it’s a bug in firefox or a bug in plex, but it is pretty inconvenient.

same here. been an issue in Firefox for as long as i can remember.

This still isn’t fixed :frowning:

Still not repaired!

Cannot reproduce in Chrome on Linux

Space bar stops. It stays stopped.
Space bar again and it resumes

I have this issue on Windows 10 running Firefox 62.0.2. Pressing the spacebar once pauses and resumes playback. Very annoying :frowning:

Ok, so this issue was enough to send me back to Chrome for a year… until now. I’m hoping to switch back to Firefox but this still hasn’t been resolved. Also, as some others have pointed out, it’s not a Linux-specific issue… I’m running Windows 10 right now.

That said, I’ve just noticed that it happens after Firefox has lost focus AFTER I click to pause the playback.
For example, I start a video, click anywhere on the video to pause (notice, I do not click the pause button on the overlay), alt-tab to another program, alt-tab back to Firefox, press spacebar and then bam! the spacebar is double-registering.

However. If I pause/play again by clicking specifically on the overlay’s pause button, the issue resolves itself.

I can reproduce this endlessly. I’m hoping this might help someone deal with the issue, or more ideally, resolve it.
