After the newest update I noticed when I mouse over a title that is playing I see a new option to Stop playback. I thought this is great, as I have a user that sometimes stays logged in and on a movie.
So in great anticipation I click it, and nice shiny new popup window comes up. I enter a smart a** comment for the reason.
I then click the Plex orange button of hope.
Then I click it again,
and again, and again.
It is no longer the orange button of hope, It is now the orange button of despair.
Yes, I’m on Linux but I have the same issue. But for me, it seems to be a “zombie” playback, because the device doesn’t play anything. It is listed as actively playing some media, but in reality does nothing and I can’t remove it from the “active” list.
Guys I just tested it again but this time with Google Chrome. I noticed that it only stops the playback while paused in Safari. In Google Chrome it stops the playback while paused & playing. So I advise you to use Google Chrome to use this function.
having the same issues as well. I hate that my friends leave videos paused with the window open. I cannot quite the video, it just pops back up immediately
Same here. I was testing it under chrome playback remotely, tried to stop playback from same browser… no go. I’ve now 2 instances of the same film playing from the same browser… I might just remove the film from the library to see if that breaks the link.
Same issue here. Especially music, it’ll give the fake appearance of working by removing them from the list & then a second or two later, it resurfaces.
Having the same issue on iOS. Very annoying as I tend to think the phantom playbacks are taking up some CPU, of which I have very little to spare in my NAS box.
Same issue here on Win10 with Plex Version 1.11.3.4803. Just recently starting happening, this version and perhaps the version before only for me. A Roku client likes to leave shows on pause, I used to be able to ‘Stop Playback’ from the currently playing page. Before it would sometimes act like it was trying to come back on, but never did and would stay off. Now it pops back up and stays.
Also having same issue with a paused device I was trying to kill stream off, tried in chrome and firefox. Also is a Roku device. I was hitting stop playback, and 1 sec later it popped back up. Tried about 4 times, and now the when hitting stop nothing happens at all.
In my case I got a network error between the Samsung TV playing a movie. As I could not do anything anymore on the TV I went to the PMS on my pc and tried to press the “stop playback” button. However, nothing happens. After waiting for so long the only thing that works is to remove the plex software from the synology NAS and re-install. Just stopping and starting etc does not work.
Same here. Win 10 Pro, Plex latest, Beta channel. Friend’s movie shows almost done on a Roku 2. Try to stop playback, dialog opens (can we get an option to not prompt ‘are you sure’ dialog?) nothing happens when I click stop. Firefox latest. No difference on Chrome latest or Edge.
