Special Features (Extras) are not sorting alphanumerically.
They’re sorting by extra category first, and only after that alphanumerically.
As a special case, locally stored trailers will be sorted first.
It doesn’t actually behave that way though, hence the BUG tag.
If you look at my screenshot, everything is in the same category. I can provide dozens more if you wish.
Are these local extras or automatically provided by plex?
Local.
Could you show the actual file names you used for these extras?
Is the order of the extras in every client type the same?
local web app, hosted web app, Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux
Yeah, same order. I’ve checked Web, iOS, Plex for HTPC and Roku.
This problem occurs on every movie by the way. I’m just showing this one as an example.
Do you happen to have an example which doesn’t use numbers at the beginning of the file name? Is it the same there?
Would it be possible to perform a Plex Dance with one movie (including its extras)?
Does the sorting order change after the procedure?
If you take a look at the movie’s plex media info XML, what does appear in its guid="...
XML property?
I performed the Plex Dance with the movie 1917. Interestingly, the indexing order of the extras didn’t change.
guid=“plex://movie/5d77705edd931c001e38bde2”
Thank you for these additional details!
Side question: could it be the order in which the files were stored?
I’m not sure I understood you correctly but I tried putting the files in one by one (after doing the plex dance again), in the end ordering was the same.
That’s not what I meant.
Each file has a date and time applied to it. It might just be that the current (wrong) ordering follows that date and time, which I liked to confirm.
If you enable the “Details” view mode of the Windows file explorer, you should be able to see these.
Unfortunately it was not relevant.
I’m having the same issue myself and I can’t seem to work out how it’s deciding the order. I have a 3 part interview in one of my films that I’d really love to appear in order but it doesn’t seem possible to reorder them or force plex to use alphabetical / filename ordering at all. Is this a confirmed bug that might be fixed in the future, or is there a workaround?
Note that there have been multiple topics reporting this bug over the last couple years, but there is not yet a fix:
Extras Not in Any Sort Order
How to sort extras/featurettes in alphabetical order?
Any news on this? Can we expect a fix soon?
I just noticed this bug myself and it’s quite annoying: “TV Spot” is now sorted before “Theatrical Trailer” which again sets the TV Spot as the default trailer (for the little trailer button).
Is this in any way related to this bug: Local Extras Display Name Problem
