TMDB: Plex does not use properly the API?
I went fed up of TVDB. It always takes ages to get anything, the website reminds me my first website in 1999. So I typed TMDB in Google as I noticed Plex is proposing an alternative. Well, I fell instantly in love with it. A Web 2.0 experience and a true community to fill all that missing information. –OK. No propaganda here, just explaining how I came to the thing.
So I trashed my so loved Japanese library powered by TVDB and started a new one powered by TMDB. Most of it matched properly –Cool!. But some did not …and here comes the weird part.
Let me explain with an example:
I tried to match my “Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto” (JP, Hepburn) aka “Intrigue in the Bakumatsu – Irohanihoheto” (US) with no luck.
So I searched on the TMDB’s website. “Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto”, “Bakumatsu Kikansetsu” which did not return anything but “Bakumatsu” did. The Hepburn was missing so I added it as additional titles.
Every information required seemed now to be there: the original name in Kanji, the translated name in English and the alternative title in Hepburn.
So I searched once again (today) on TMDB and it found it.
Magic did not happen on Plex though. Tried a “Match…” (auto) with no luck. No results. At all. Tried the manual mode (search options). Same. Nothing.
I compared to others like “Zero no Tsukaima”. SAME configuration on TMDB …and match perfectly on Plex! Can’t understand why the different behavior. Has it has something to do with a title’s length? A weird cache on Plex servers making the API not requesting TMDB in fact but Plex? Something else?
To go a bit deeper, I changed the language in search options and it did find something. Any language other than English does return the original name (Kanji) but I’m no fluent in Japanese you know so…^^"
It clearly has some bug somewhere.

I found another bug with the auto-match: it performs wrong permutation when dealing with points: A.I. turns into "A I " (points into spaces). So the auto-match returns nothing but if you correct it in search options …“magic”.
I have also noticed other few bugs:
Server side: Agents section
The ordering preferences and checkboxes selections are not saved, or are but if you’re really lucky. I went to the Shows subsection, hit The Movie Database and then, tried to rearrange and select the Plex Theme Music and Local media assets. Nearly got me mad: sometimes it saved part of the ordering, sometimes one checkbox, sometimes loosing all. The 10th try was the good one. >_<
Tested with Safari 10.1.1 (macOS Sierra).
Client side: Movie/TV Shows browser
The “Match…” and “Fix match…” do not show up when hitting at first the “…” icon. To make them display, you must hit the pen icon, then cancel, hit the “…” icon and voila! It now displays. (Really annoying when you have more than one match to make.)
Tested with Safari 10.1.1 (macOS Sierra).
