"Fix Match" Search Options only shows Plex Movie

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4021
Player Version#: 4.52.1

When I try to fix a Match with “Search Options”, the only option I’m shown is “Plex Movie”. Is there a way to match against TMDB anymore?

A movie library which has been set to use the Plex Movie agent and scanner, will only use this agent.
However, this agent combines data from IMDb and TheMovieDB.

When performing Fix Match, you can use both IMDb ID numbers or TheMovieDB ID numbers in the ‘Title’ input field to force a match: Fix Match / Match | Plex Support

You can also use either of these and include them in your file / folder names to give a matching hint to Plex early on, avoiding the need to perform Fix Match later: Naming and organizing your Movie files | Plex Support

Still works on the local Plex Web that comes with server Version 1.21.3.4021 (On Windows, at least)

Of course, at some point in time, the bundled web app will be updated so that option/workaround will be gone.

It has never worked like you think it would. The matches it produced were always to the Plex Movie agent.

Good to know…

Somewhat unrelated, but the local app will still match properly when I select the the XBMCnfoImporter agent. I’m assuming that agent will be unusable at some point in time. I do have a couple of movies that are unmatchable any other way.

EDIT: LOL - just checked one movie, and it indeed does not work any more. Oh well…

Ah, thanks. I wasn’t aware of how/where the Plex Movie option got its information. And I’ll try the TMDB number when I get home. (Maddeningly, I used to be able to get at my Plex library from here at work, but can’t any more. But that’s a matter for another post. And I’m probably better off doing my job rather than tweaking my library from the office.)

I’ve been adding films to TMDB, since I have a significant number that aren’t there yet. I’m guessing that, if Plex Movie gets info from there, it might take a while to update.

It can take a few days. Maybe sometimes longer if they’re massaging the database due to bugs.

@OttoKerner this is new as previously (within the last week or so) we could do a fix match against any agent and not only the main plex movie one. There is another thread on also linked below.

Why was this changed ?

Please see above.

Above does not explain why ? Above only shows a workaround to yet another silently removed option within plex.

It has never worked like you think it would. The matches it produced were always to the Plex Movie agent.

So two things …

  1. searching by TMDB id’s does not work, never has (at least for me) which is why I use the agent when I want to check something. IMDB ids work, TMDB do not.
  2. on your support page → Fix Match / Match | Plex Support it clearly states…

Selecting an agent from the menu will automatically trigger a search using that selected metadata agent. So, even if your Movies library is set to use “Plex Movie” as the agent, you could manually have a particular item search and use “The Movie Database” instead, if you wish.

What you have said above invalidates your own doc.

That passage needs updating, because it clearly refers to the “old world”, when there were only the Python-based agents.
The “Plex Movie” agent it is referring to, is now called the “Plex Movie (Legacy)” client.

The whole procedure it is describing does only work with a library which

  • has been created with one of the old agents
  • has never been converted (with “upgrade matching”) to use the new agent

I call BS on this… this is something new and has changed only recently, probably with WebOS update to Version 4.52.1 as if I use an old client (like the PMP player which has Version 4.29.2 enbedded) or the embedded client at localhost (Version 4.51.1) I can search using whatever agent I want.

Again… BS!

Phrasing!

Yes you can search with what ever agent you want. But no matter which search result you later click on, the match will be made to the new agent.
You can verify this by looking at the guid in the Plex XML info
If it says guid="plex://movie/…` it is using the new Plex Movie agent.

It is a bit disappointing that the old agents are being phased out. The only reason I haven’t automatically “upgraded” the matching for all of my movies is because I used the different agents to match versions (extended, theatrical/colorized/etc) That way they had their own separate watch status, progress, etc. The split movie option doesn’t allow that.

Oh well, I’m sure I’ll find a way to adapt, once again.

The new Plex Movie agent is good and is fast in my opinion.

What I miss is directors pictures, which were fetched with the Plex Movie (Legacy) agent.

I’ve just refreshed all my movies and all the directors pictures are gone.

Unfortunately, entering the TMDB number didn’t appear to work.

I’m trying to match “Ocean” directed by Charles Atlas.
It’s on TMDB at https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/797017-ocean
When I entered “797017” in the Title field, it responded with a long list of films that had a “7” in the title.

How can I get this feature to work as documented?

The only way to get it to work is to match off IMDB but use TMDB as the ratings setting on that library. That should work (or at least does for me).

Matching off TMDB does not work.

That’s disappointing, given the massive gaps in IMDb’s database.
