[BUG] - Unable to play DTS audio.

When I attempt to play DTS audio no sound is played and the video freezes then randomly fast forwards and freezes again.
I don’t seem to have any issues playing AC3 audio. I have passthrough enabled if I disable it then the video plays, however, transcoding is needed and I only get stereo audio.

My setup does play DTS as I am able to play it through SPMC with PlexKodiConnect.

Plex Version: 5.2.0.251
Android Version: 6.0.1
Device: Xiaomi MiBox3

Are you using the latest version? Using HDMI? Chances are the devs don’t have one of these boxes so can’t rest support whereas the Nvidia SHIELD TV is much more readily available and accessible to them.

I believe the MiBox, with its 69$ price tag, will become the entry level androidtv box of choice for average consumers… So Plex should definitely get around to supporting them properly.

Also, since plex uses exoplayer which is standard on the platform, I think it should be as close to universal as possible.

@danjames92 Yes I am using the latest version, the previous version did not support AC3 audio when I first tried it , since the latest update AC3 audio has been working. The MiBox supports both HDMI as well as Optical so I have tried both and have the same issue. I also agree with @KarlDag that the MiBox will possibly become the android box of choice for the average user so Plex should definitely cater for it.

Just to clarify my receiver does not support HDMI pass through therefore I can only get DTS through optical. As i said in my first message I am able to get DTS when playing through SPMC but not Plex through optical.

Oh well there’s your first problem. ExoPlayer has no feasible way to detect what formats your AVR can decode via optical as none of the information is passed like it is through HDMI. AFAIK, the Plex team (and subsequent player logic) would need to know what AVR you have in order to support it which in my opinion, is very unlikely to happen.

@danjames92 Thanks that clears things up, is there no way for me to use an external player on the plex android tv app? There is an option on the regular android app but not tv. Could possibly use a player then that would support it. Otherwise, I am going to stick to using SPMC and PlexKodiConnect.

When asked about it they said it was not a part of their plans. If you don’t plan on using HDMI in the forseeable future, stick with SPMC / Kodi.
