Plex for Android 7.30.1
Using refresh rate switching, HDMI, AVR with all the normal settings to enable original quality playback.
Sometimes, i.e over 50% of the time, playback wont start. I’ll have to pause it, unpause it and it’ll start playing ok… but with a video delay (audio ahead of video).
I think something is broken in regards to refresh rate switching somewhere.
This is on the latest Plex for Android 7.30.1 on SHIELD TV (2015).
The exact same action above occurs on my 2015 shield, New player with refresh rate and resolution switching on. Does not happen with old player with Refresh rate on. On latest Beta has been happening ever since new player was introduced.
+1 on this with my Shield 2017, refresh rate switching enabled and using the new player via AVR - maybe 80% of the time the screen remains black and AVR states ‘no stream’.
Have to stop/start and even sometimes exit Plex to get something to play. Switching to the old player resolves the issue for me (haven’t tried disabling rate switching).
check the audio stream to see if it’s 7.1 TRUEHD if it’s 7.1 and you have subtitles enabled, the player will request a transcode from the server. I have been having to switch to the 5.1 audio streams if I have subtitles enabled, and found that to work fairly well.
We believe this is an issue with Refresh Rate switching. For now, you can disable Refresh Rate and Resolution switching, and that should resolve the issue. We have a promising looking fix coming in a new version of the v7.31 beta.
I noticed that my player has changed automatically from classic to new after the last update on the 13th. Will keep an eye on the original issue but one thing I noticed last night is during seeking back or forward the picture would heavily pixelate and was not smooth like it used to be. I only played one video so could be that file. Will try a few more tonight.
Edit: Must be a rogue file tried some more this evening and seeking was silky smooth.
