[Bug] Watched Flag is set when a friend watches something from my library

This is not Mac specific. My PMS was running on Windows for a couple of years. Now I switched to Centos7 and the bug/feature still exists.

When a friend is watching a show or a movie it (sometimes) it gets marked as viewed (in the XML viewCount and lastViewed is set).

I’d rather not like this to happen in my library.

I know that this “feature” is disabled when the PMS owner does not have a PlexPass (like me). Then the watched flag can only be set by the owner and not by any shared friend.

Is there a way to forbid PMS this? Couldn’t find anything under the friends sharing options or the library settings.

Thank you very much

I have Plexpass and my friends activities doesn’t affect my view status afaik. Could there be other reasons such as Plex Home or perhaps that they end up on the same network / Plex thinks it’s local? If not, I’m pretty sure that this “feature” is more of a bug that should be properly investigated. Logs, etc.

edit: Ugh, tired. Sorry, did you mean that you actually don’t want your friends to have any chance of marking stuff as watched on their Plex account? If so, why?

No worries

As far as I understand the following is true:

The PMS of a PlexPassUser allows her friends to track what they have watched and where they have paused.
But the PMs of a BasicUser does not. So if I start watching a movie on a NonPlexPass PMS it get not marked as watched and if I pause in the middle I cannot later resume there.

I have plexWatch running so I have a good overview who saw what…
As an example:

r4nd00m watched Contaigon (and paused) and watched several episodes of Covert affairs. He is watchingit remotely from another city..

I never watched any of this.

I now check in my PMS both media…
Contagion is still unwatched. No lastViewed or viewCount tag…

But Covert Affairs is nearly completely marked as watched.
interestingly not the last episode which he definitly watched as well…

This seems like a bug to me as well. Especially because it event doesn’t mark every thing as watched but only in most of the cases. For Covert Affairs season 3 There was as well 1 of 16 episodes still marked as watched…

I have exactly the same bug. I am sharing my server at home with a couple of friends, and my brother in law.
He was added fairly recently, and for his user everything is marking my side of the library as watched. I can’t think that this is expected behavior. Any chance we can get someone to look into this ?

Can someone tag this post as a bug ? #bug ?

The ninja help! Thanks @a.jongsma.

I was using the trakt.tv channel which can not only push watched shows to trakt.to but also pulls watched shows from trakt.tv to plex.
By configure the trakt.tv channel to only sync my plex users actions the problem is solved.

I am experiencing this too on my FreeNAS box. Whenever my parents watch something it marks the TV Show or Movie as watched even though I haven’t watched it yet. They have their own Plex account. I also tried looking into the Trakt.tv channel (plugin) but couldn’t find what @CCarpo was talking about. Didn’t see anything in the plugin to ‘sync plex users actions’.

@djsnafu There is a fairly simple test you can do. For me it also turned out to be traktv like @CCapro said it can sync both ways. Disabling the plugin solved the watched status thing for me.

This is a Screenshot from the Trakt.tv Plugin Settings.
Make sure that “Sync -Watched” does NOT say "Synchronize (Pull + Push) but for example only Push as I have configured it.

Thanks. I’ll give this a shot

Thank you so much! I was about to pull my hair out. You’re a genius.

Hello,

I’d like to add my experience with this.
I concur about this observed behavior being caused by the Trak.tv channel/plugin (Plex-Trakt-Scrobbler).
But I found another fix to this that I think is better than just force Trak.tv “Sync -Watched” to “Push only”:
The scrobbler let you bind a specific Trakttv account to a (or severals/all) specific Plex account in database
github.com/trakt/Plex-Trakt-Scrobbler/wiki/FAQ—Scrobbling#2-why-are-videos-watched-by-other-users-being-scrobbled-to-my-profile

Let me know if that fixes some problems

Hi paolovador.
Thanks for the link. Great finding.
I followed the guide and it seems the configuration was successfull. I’ll have to wait a couple of days to see the results. Then I’ll mark your answer as helpful.
