The issue: when a TV episode finishes the episode is not being marked as ‘watched’ and the progress appears to be resetting or getting stuck at approximately 5 minutes before the end of the episode. The only way to mark episodes watched is manually.
Xbox One Client = v 1.8.0, [Linux] PMS = v 1.1.4.2757
I’m in the process of [biting the bullet and moving to v1+ builds of PMS on Linux] upgrading PMS from 9.16.6 to 1.1.14 (or whatever the latest public build is) to prove or eliminate client/server compatibility as the issue. As this behaviour only arose after the update to 1.8.0 on Xbox One in the past 24 hours I’m not super hopeful that a PMS upgrade will correct it. Now, either way, I think this needs to be documented, as I know a few people still sitting on <v1 PMS builds. So if it’s an identifiable compatibility issue, they’ll at least just need to be aware of it, if it turns out updating PMS doesn’t resolve it then it will appear to be a bug in Xbox One client.
edit: have upgraded PMS and watched a couple of episodes of TV. Progress still resetting to approx 5 minutes pre-end and failing to flag as Watched.
Works fine for me on 1.8.0 and latest PMS
Binge watched an entire series, and all episodes were marked as Watched.
- Did you start the Series, or were in the middle of it ?
- Does it make any difference if you start it from the home screen or from TV screen ?

Both.

Nope. Can start from any component - on deck, recently added, browsing library.
And it’s just TV shows. Movies mark correctly. Even, for instance, Youtube vids added to the Plex Watch Later queue.
I’ve ensured PMS is up to date, and server it sits on has been fully updated just in case a dependency issue was at play.
I suppose it’s possible to do, though I’ve not done it before, my next mission will be to find out how to ‘clean up’ Plex on Xbox and clean install it.
Just adding to my first post.
It’s not ‘TV Shows’ as a library type, it’s content duration based.
I have a library for ‘short films’ (generally anything under 30 minutes). We watched a few of the Pixar shorts today, and The Gruffallo. In each instance they were not marked as watched (or complete).
Not sure what the cut off point is, I’m guessing somewhere around the 60-80 minute mark, but anything below a certain duration is playing through to completion, finishing and then the ‘length played’ is not updating to reflect that it’s played the entire item - so of course it wont mark as watched.
It’s not some clean % variance, certainly not a constant variance. It’s closest to a %, but not predictable.
Examples.
4:49 duration, shows 38 seconds left (38/289)
- 4:29 duration, shows 27 seconds left (27/269)
6:13, duration, shows 40 seconds left (40/373)
4:29 duration, shows 31 seconds left (31/269)
43:32 duration, shows 4 minutes 27 seconds left (267/2612)
44:10 duration, shows 4 minutes 33 seconds left (273/2650)
