I’m assuming something screwy is going on when a movie was previously added with an agent from a few years ago and then when a higher quality version is added Plex doesn’t line them up properly.
I used to just add better quality media when I was able to and then prune out the lower quality stuff by filtering the movies by duplicates. Now it seems many aren’t showing up as duplicate, yet the match from the search box as if they are still the same film.
Poltergeist doesn’t show up when filtered for duplicates but it does show up as the same film in the search. How do I fix this? These screen shots should explain the issue I’m having.
Also, when I click on one of the versions the actors don’t have any of the pictures showing, yet the other version does. And crazy, when I click on the same actors name I get wildly different results for what movies they are in based on which Poltergeist I’m in.
When you change the library agent, make sure to refresh the library metadata. This should bring all existing items in line with the new agent.
Plex has no means to identify the same movie identified by different agents as such.
Edit:
Bonus question… are those videos you expect to see as duplicates / different-quality versions of the same video located in the same library?
Just asking because they seem to be located in different top-level library folders (NotFormatSortedREMUX vs. NotFormatSorted) – both folders can of course be linked to the same library… just want to avoid missing that pitfall
I had it in my head refreshing the metadata was going to be a big deal and was worried about database problems so I have been avoiding it. I did as you suggested and it works as expected now, thanks!
Yes, those videos are expected to see as duplicates as they are in the same library with different top level folders. For the vast majority of my movies, once they I have a copy of the remux version I delete all the rest and I use the duplicate filter for cleaning up lower quality versions.
At one point in my life having the remux versions separate was important, perhaps when I had my stuff split over several different storage servers…
I do miss the tv shows with duplicates showing that little triangle on the episode thumbnail to illustrate it.
