Server Version#: Version 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: -
Since update to this version (before it was 1.40.x), I detected an Issue. If I am updating an existing library containing 446 different shows actually, I always recieve the Message “Your Changes could not be saved.”.
Same behavior on two different installations.
I checked allready database for curruptions, but there wasn´t any. Anyway tried to rebuild and so on. Did not work…
When I am deletuing 46 Shows. It can be stored again. Adding just one show (doesn´t matter which one) the library can´t be stored again. Deleting one more and then adding the same show as before, the library can be stored again.
So it seem, that there has been introduced with one of the last updates this behavior.
Does anyone know, how to get around this?
Thanks!
Hmm, yes, I am doing it that way. Until this update it worked well for me. If it´s wrong, how I can now change that? The problem is, that I made to each Series different settings. So is there a way to move them?
Just to say; I am storing each Show inside it´s own folder. According to the this
/TV Shows
television content
It would not work for me, because it´s more looking like that:
/TV Shows/Show1/
television content
/TV Shows/Show2/
television content
I´ve sorted my Shows very well:
Each stored in one of the >400 Folders and placing all files in just one subfolder it would be a mess, because that folder would be incredible full. No, the other way how I stored and used them for a decade is well proved for me.
I am using the files not only for Plex, so I need to open those folders directly and don´t want to have a folder which containing a few thousand files.
Otto didn’t suggest to move all files flat in a single top-level folder.
Plex needs a substructure w/ folders for individual shows and their seasons.
However you don’t have to add each of those show subfolders individually to Plex.
Example:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your library
Game of Thrones (2011)
Season 01
Game of Thrones (2011) - s01e01.ext
...
Another Show (2024)
...
Yet Another Show (2025)
...
Proper folder structure.
Still, just 1 folder linked to the tv-show library.
Ok. That´s the way I have the shows actually:
TV-Shows root\Show 1\show 1 -S01E01.mp4
TV-Shows root\Show 1\show 1 -S01E02.mp4
TV-Shows root\Show 1\show 1 -S02E01.mp4
TV-Shows root\Show 1\show 1 -S02E02.mp4
TV-Shows root\Show 2\show 2 -S01E01.mp4
and so on…
But the real problem remains:
I have almost 450 shows here for which I have created individual shares and collections. I also have several of my own posters. If I change this, I would have to create them again manually. That would take days…
What surprises me:
Why was I able to create them all and now there suddenly seems to be a limit of 400? Why is that? Is there no way around this (downgrade, registry, etc.)?
Or is there a way to get the data into the format described above using a database query, etc., without having to re-enter everything?
Common approach would be similar to “migrating” the media files – basically keeping the original path linked to the library (w/ “automatically empty trash” disabled), then add the new library folder location to your library, scan/refresh the library. This will let Plex reconcile the old/new items – so when you finally remove the old location, its files should remain linked to your library (incl. manual edits, playlist/collection assignments…).
As for why it used to work and now it doesn’t: you can get lucky by sidestepping the official naming schema… until you don’t.
This isn’t a new guideline – no idea why you felt the need to add individual tv-show folders to your library. Honestly I’m surprised you haven’t run into more severe problems before (e.g. shows matched as existing shows due to the lack of a separate show-level folder from Plex’s perspective).
I made the attempt. Plex also starts up and creates the series. Everything that was once assigned seems to be assigned. At least for the first 10-20 shows, as far as I can tell. Of course, it may simply have been newly but correctly assigned automatically.
BUT: everything that I have added manually, such as releases, collections, my own comments and posters, is not transferred. I would have to do this manually.
So I’m still wondering if anyone has had the same problem and found a solution and especially why there seems to be a lower threshold now.
It seem not to be working… anyone who has an Idea about this Limit? Why it´s there? How can I get around it? Or how can I move the Shows with complete data?
I’ve been adding TV shows to the TV library the same way for years and now all of a sudden I can add anything.. just one more thing they broke and will take forever to fix.
That worked well for me for many many years. And also it´s exactly the same behavior if you use Plex as the other described solution. So only issue: it seem to be not possible to move to the other system. So what´s wrong by using this, if everything is working well? The limit itself seem to be new.
I think the discussion does not lead into right direction. I´ve got here an issue, which was not there before last update. For that I am seeking a solution. I don´t want to discuss why I am doing whatever.
No, it wasn´t. When I am deleting randomly about 47 Shows, I can add one again. So if I add them during a while, why the limit does now appear until I´ve got 446? But it did appear when I want to add Nr. 447. That makes no sense if the limit was always there. If it has been always there it would have appeard at 401.
I can´t go back, because the DB has been updated during updates. So it´s not starting any more, if I make a downgrade. Tryed this allready.
