When adding a new folder to library (Tv Shows) getting "Your changes could not be saved."

After the last update: 1.41.7.9799-72009799 on my Synology NAS. I went in to add 1 Tv Show with 1 Season. when I went into my plex app on web like I have done 100 times before, went to add the folder and hit [Save Changes] a message “Your Changes could not be saved”

I have never had this problem in the past 4-5 Years, and the only thing I did was install the newest update last night, so that has to be the culprit. Right?

Has anyone found a fix for this or is it one of those I’ll have to wait until the next patch and pray it gets fixed?

Server logs might show what’s going wrong.
As a side note… you shouldn’t have to add individual show folders to the library — just the library-level folders (which contain your show-level folders)!

I use the main folder for my movies, but for some weird reason I actually added each folder for each show when it came to TV shows. So if I just do the main Folder and delete all the sub folders will I lose any of the data that has been saved like which shows have been watch or collection tags? (When I say delete the sub folders I just mean in the plex add for finding them not from the NAS unit itself.

Just to elaborate on tom80H’s reply, in the example below, you want to add only the TV Series folder to your Plex TV Show library.

All other folders are then automatically read by Plex when it scans the TV Show library folder you defined in the library settings.

File Station:

Plex TV Show library settings:

Also, reboot the NAS and your browser and then try adding the folder again.

You should NOT lose any data if you make the change to your library folders. Plex is normally smart enough to recognise a simple path change and should retain your metadata for each show.

Do run a Refresh Metadata command on the library though.

Also doing a little testing, All my folders are working on the [Save Changes] but the Tv Shows. figured I’d do a little testing

I also restarted the NAS unit and relogged back into Web and still same issue with those TV Shows.

Did you make the change in your library settings, to the parent folder only, removing any other folders in the process?

OK Kewl.

If it still refuses to save the changes (the settings will revert to their former state), then reboot your modem/router and everything connected to it, including any wireless devices.

I did and it is now loading them back now will confirm no more issues once it is done.

When I deleted everything left and came back it was all still there had to delete it all twice and it stuck this time.

Kewl, fingers crossed, you now have it sorted and any changes you make to your library, including adding/removing TV Show folders and related files should be automatically picked up by Plex when it scans the library.

Its also scanning the metadata as it’s deleting out the old Show/Season sub folders and replacing them as it searching the Parent folder and bringing them back in. All my collection tabs seem to be in order and what I have and haven’t watched. I played a video and it work from one that had converted back. so now it’s just waiting the hours it takes to re introduce 1000+ shows back into the system. If i have anymore issues or if It 100% takes I’ll let you know.

Excellent!

It sounds like you will be set once Plex has done it’s thing.

Happy Plexing!

Thanks a million, Crazy that the way I had been doing it for 4+ years was ok up until the latest update.

Yeah, these things bite you when you least expect it, but at least you have it sorted now and you should not experience the pain any more … lol

Happy Plexing!

I have the same problem. After the update, I can no longer insert, edit, or remove items from the MOVIES category, which I had already done more than 500 times.

What happens now? I have already removed PLEX SERVER, reinstalled it, and the problem persists.

It’s annoying that the company doesn’t provide support for us, after all, we are subscribers.

I have the same problem as you, but in MOVIES, I have more than 2,000 individual folders for each movie and I can no longer add any content, edit or remove it, it won’t let me save the changes.

Same as above… don’t add 2000 individual movie folders to your library. Add the parent “library folder” instead.
For anything beyond that, we’ll need server logs, version of PMS and host platform, some details of what’s actually going on (what do you do, what’s the expected result and what do you get to see instead)?

I managed to solve the problem and everything is working perfectly, I can add, edit and remove movies. I simply reinstalled the previous version of PlexMediaServer-1.41.0.8994 and that’s it.

As for the 2,000 folders, I had to do this because if I create a PARENT folder inside them with all 2,000 movies, I will have problems correcting a movie and have to ask PLEX to analyze everything because of one movie? It doesn’t make sense, each folder is like a wire, each with its own point.

There is no need to add every individual movie folder and that has never been recommended by Plex or anyone else.

You don’t have to analyse the entire library, you can simply analyze a single movie by moving the mouse over the movies poster, clicking on the ellipsis (three dots) icon and selecting Analyze.

If you need to analyse several movies at the same time you can Shift or Control select the movies in question and then select Analyze.

Whatever works for you. Just be orepared that this approach will lead into trouble.
If you keep each movie in its separate folder inside the library folder, scans will only compare the date a folder / its content were last modified with Plex‘s database. No unnecessary scanning and analysis of all files.

I had to downgrade to an earlier version of Plex Media Server. I also put each individual movie in a folder, for I always hated doing the Plex dance, when I have multiple versions of the same movie. It keeps it nice and tidy for me. Not sure why the update would mess everything up that way, but saying to just use the Parent folder only doesn’t solve this vexing problem. I wish Plex had a phone support, for this is something we should be able to get tech support from and not try to guess at it or wait for forum help.
