bulk remux tool for MKV so XB One can play natively

Hi guys,

I have a lot of stuff thats MKV, is there an easy to use tool that will go though my collection and remux everything to MP4 so Plex can play with without transcoding?

I just want something that will basically leave the content alone and just rip it to a new container (if thats the right way to say it)

Thanks

I use ffmpeg in a command line for that

If you are on a Mac, I found a program called handbrake batch that seems to do a pretty good job.

Handbrake probably wouldn't be the best for this IF the video is already h.264 format.  Running it through HandBrake will downgrade the video and take a lot longer then a simply remux will.

mp4tools (Mac) if you buy it $4.99 you just keep adding them and it remux them. The best part is you keep the ac3/aac audio with 5.1 surround sound if you have that

I want to make sure I keep the sound intact as well?

Also, sorry, i should have said. Im running windows server 2012

I've used this.....

If you had a mac MP4Tools is amazing and is fast and keeps audio in tact

I have mp4tools and love it. Actually love the whole suite. Cheap. I don't go a day without using MKVtools, so.....yea.

No Mac, Windows server 2012??

Anything else that keeps audio intact.

I could create a OSX VM I guess... But its just going to slow the whole thing down.

PlexTools sounds great. Does it keep the audio intact? I skimmed though the main post, wasn't sure?

Actually I guess it's not about keeping the audio intact. But making it ether AC3 or AAC?

Why remux? Since October, the Xbox natively supports mkv, see https://xbox.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/510968-october-update-1410-release-notes. It's just the Plex App/Server that doesn't understand that. If you use the Media Player app, you'll see that it will DirectPlay.

Plex should update the player/profile with all of Xbox' media support.

whaaaaaaaaa??????

This is the best news I've heard all week!

@PlexTeam Can we please get this added real quick, or a work around in the meantime?

This has been like this since Plex was announce and has not change since! Don't think its going to change anytime soon.

Currently the MKV container is restricted to Xbox 1st party apps (same with windows store applications). This is not likely to change until Windows 10 is released (both for Xbox One and Windows).

Plex can't use the container if MS doesn't allow them too, get over to uservoice and vote for it and show your support to get MS to allow this.
