Just getting started with plex. Using a chromecast, it stutters when i try to stream “Original”. Laptop works fine. Assuming this is due to lack of horsepower.
If Rasplex is easy to get into, would try it as it seems to be the preferred plex player. Don’t have time to deal with installing everything on my own, so wondering if anyone knows a place i can buy the device + plex installed, ready to go?
Sorry, but I’m not aware of anyone selling RPi units with RasPlex pre-installed.
Most commonly you buy it as just a circuit board (fully assembled of course), often bundled with a plastic case, a PSU (same as used as chargers for most Android phones and many tablets) and an SD card. But that card is then either blank or pre-flashed with the NOOBS software, so you would still have to re-flash it.
Also, many of the bundled SD cards are class 4, and you need a class 10 card for reliable operation.
However, assuming you have a PC with SD card reader, or an external USB card reader, flashing a card is very simple. You just download the GetRasPlex.exe installer and follow instructions. There will be a download delay for the RasPlex image, so that delay depends on your ISP connection, but other than that the total work time should be less than 5 minutes (if your RPi is pre-mounted in the case, else add a few minutes more).
The only issue then is how you intend to control the RPi. If you plan to use your TV remote, then results vary greatly from ‘working perfectly as-is’ to ‘requiring fiddling with internal XML files’, which latter is clearly not to your liking. Personally I always prefer to use wireless (NOT bluetooth) miniature USB keyboards, connected to the RPi by a wireless dongle plugged into one of its USB ports. This always works without any extra measures.
I strongly suggest connecting the RPi to your LAN through Ethernet cable, rather than using a WiFi dongle.
The Chromecast is entirely dependent on WiFi transfer integrity and that is probably one strong reason for its failure to handle your video playback with ‘original’ quality.

Thanks in advance.
As dilator has said, there is nowhere you can buy a RPi with Rasplex installed, installation is fairly simple as he described.
