No i dont have settings at all for some reason. I used to and when i did i remember enabling the passthrough .
Are you actually using the Plex Media Player? If so, is it in the āTVā mode?
Yes i use PMP but i dont use it in tv mode, i use it in the other mode. But like i said, i did go into tv mode but i dont have any Settings in there. I will go into tv mode later and see if the problem happens and get back to you. Just in case Iām doing something wrong, once i get into tv mode, what exactly do i click on to get to settings?

You are right they are there. Ok so i have everything enabled there except for exclusive mode. The problem happens in tv mode aswell. So i disabled all the passthroughs and problem solved. But the tv mode is horrible. I canāt use the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll up and down and i cant click at a point in the movie to go directly there, i have to press the fast forward button and wait. So then i went back to web mode and the noise was still gone. So i should keep those passthroughs disabled? I read an article once that they should be enabled.

These settings are retained when you switch back to desktop mode.
What do those settings do exactly?
If the checkbox is ticked, the player will forward the audio stream āas-isā over HDMI to the AVR. It is then up to the AVR to decode it properly.
If the checkbox is disabled, the Plex client will decode the audio stream to PCM. How many channels will be used for decoding is dependent on the preferences in the plex app and in some cases also in the Windows sound settings.
Plex Media Player has its own setting for ānumber of speakersā.
The Plex for Windows Player however will consider the number of channels which have been set in the sound configuration of Windows for the selected sound interface.
So if your AVR has 6 speakers connected, make sure to set Windows to 6 channels for the HDMI āsound interfaceā, or you might get only stereo sound.
So that means that the receiver is creating this buzzing sound? If so, what part of the receiver do you think is creating it? I bought an external amp yesterday, not to fix this problem though. Do you think the problem will go away once i get it?
Sorry, I donāt know. It could be the receiver. It could also be some weird interaction between all the devices which are connected by HDMI wires.

Theyāre similar, but not the same.
If you have the āTV modeā available, you are using PMP.
I think I had the windows version and had to switch to pmp because it wouldnāt play movies in 7.1 and there was no setting for this in the windows version. With pmp, I get a message saying if I update it, only tv mode will be available which I donāt like cause I donāt like the interface and my mouse scroller doesnāt work. Does the windows version have 7.1 mode now?

So Otto, in terms of sound quality, what is the difference between having those passthroughs enabled vs having them disabled and having plex and windows set to 7.1?
Passthrough off: Plex player is decoding the audio stream to PCM. This is limited to up to 5.1 channels, more doesnāt fit into HDMI.
Passthrough on: your AVR or Soundbar is decoding the audio stream. Many AVR s (can) do additional processing when they decode themselves, like emphasizing the Center channel for instance.
But apart from such details, the result of both approaches should sound very similar.
The minor differences might get more discernable, the better the sound system is.
I just did a test with and without the passthrough. Both cases had the same settings and volume. I measured the spl in each case and it was a few db higher with the passthrough enabled. Other than that my novice ears couldnāt tell a difference. With the passthrough disabled, my avr detected a 7.1 signal though, not 5.1.
