Plex for home cinema

Is it over for Plex being a player for home cinema enthusiasts?
DTS 2.0 channel doesnt really cut the mustard for HD performances
Is the focus on mobile devises where sound doesnt play such a large role compaired to home cinema lovers.
Without the HD audio home cinema is dead for Plex

not sure how you are coming to your conclusions. Plex Media Player and many other plex clients such as the Nvidia Shield play multichannel audio fine . there is just as much focus on desktop and connected devices as mobile ones.

which plex client/player are you using and on what. if you need help configuring let us know

I use a Nvidea sheild console and i get DTS:HD /DTS HD MA etc. If you are viewing through a browser in a home cinema you are not going to have a good time!

HTPC connected via HDMI to AV DTS-HD MA /TRUEHD capable receiver 7.1 speaker arrangement everything was perfect until along came PMS vers 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e

Windows 10 HTPC 4 servers on 4 platforms all with the same issue not recognising DTS-HD MA audio in 1080 movie files
Please look at my discussion on the subject if you can solve my problem your more than amazing i am not the only one with this issue

This is possibly the silliest comment I’ve read so far. Home cinema enthusiasts would know how to edit their settings. If you have an issue, explain it thoroughly. HD audio never went anywhere.

That doesn’t tell us what client you are using. Plex Media Player? OpenPHT? Plex Home Theater? Plex UWP Store App? Plex Web?

i am using PMP Plex Media Player on Windows 10 and usually the same server on the windows or the server on the Netgear readynas 516
Also i went to the trouble of having a windows HTPC built for me as £3.500 worth of MAC pro 6 core can’t play DTS-HD MA audio back using Plex

Ok. While a Mac can’t bitstream the audio, it can pass it through as LPCM at its original quality. Have you tried using the latest 1.1.4 RC client here? https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/public-testing/1.1.4.393-12c41f9f/

You have enabled exclusive mode, gone into advanced and checked all the codecs yes? See the shot below. Seeing as you have a Plex Pass, you may as well upgrade the server to 1.0.3 while you’re at it.

With all due respect i did tell you that i had it all working perfectly until the update PMS vers 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e and all the subsequent updates since
this is to do with the fact PMS is not picking up the correct audio for a title all my files are checked with Mediainfo after they have been placed in movie library
I have posted what PMS picks up DTS 2.0 channel stereo and then showing Mediainfo showing DTS-HD MA 5.1
Please take a couple of minutes to read my earlier posts even a PLEX employee has recognised the fault
Go to my discussions you’ll find it there

The discussion i would like you to look at is No DTS HD MA audio after PMS 1.0.0.2261-a17e99e update

This is an example of what i am talking about

Interesting…I assume you’ve tried re-importing the files?

I downloaded PMS onto another imac i use for day to day and PMS did exacetly the same thing
As i keep saying i have PMS on 4 different computers so it must be a PMS problem
All my movie files are stored on a Netgear readynas 516 NAS each server has to build a library from scanning
that NAS all files on that NAS are checked with Mediainfo as shown above
I dont belive reimporting them on one PMS would change anything there are 685 movies on that NAS which PMS doesnt always get the correct Metadata for which makes quiet a lot of work re entering it to gain nothing

You don’t play things though PMS you play them with Plex Media Player.

DTS MA tracks ( usually 7.1 audio) have what is called a “core” track(s) which is usually the 5.1 audio. this code track is what PMS displays but there is only one track. In your file happens to have the 8channel (7.1) and 2 core tracks a 6 channel ( 5.1) and the stereo. PMS is just displaying the 2.0. the main track is still there.

PMS is not a player. Plex Media Player will play the 7.1 if you have it set up correctly because in reality it is just one track that PMP will pass to your receiver and play regardless of what PMS thinks it is. ( the only acception being OSX which cannot passthrough DTSMA) Have you tried to play the file? What are your audio settings in PMP if that is what you are using.

but you’re right that PMS should still display it as a 7.1 track. if you can provide the pms analysis log from when that file was read in it would be appreaciated

Hi your response is rude to say the least despite the fact the sever is displaying the wrong information PMP only plays back the information the server gives it DTS 2.0 CHANNEL STEREO
As i said before it was all perfect until the major update
One of your colleges has acknowledged the fact a problem exists @chrisallen
And don’t you think that the fact i have four PMS servers on 4 different computers all with the same problem tells you something
I am was a Plex nutter FAN but i am a little tired having spent thousands of ponds to get things perfect for it to all go south

DUMBO it doesn’t recognise and doesn’t play it i am not new to this please show some respect
Again if you had read what i had posted you would realise READ ALL NOT JUST WHAT YOU PICK UP ON START AT THE BEGINNING

WOW! @FILMNIGHT365, the only one being rude here is you. I can see in your past posts that @chrisallen did acknowledge your problems with this:

“Apologies for the delayed response. This is a bug that seems to affect some systems and not others ( I don’t have it on my Mac or Windows systems) that said, we can reproduce it, and a should be addressed in one of the next 1.0.x updates.
Please keep an eye on the release announcement thread for PMS for release notes.
I’ll reply here when I know which particular release it will be fixed in.”

Honestly, I don’t see the purpose of this tread at all.

Frustration your down sizing trying to simplyfy your system has totally ruined mine having spent thousands of pounds making it perfect
Once i knew everything was working after a long journey i expanded my home cinema system to 7.1 all perfect could not be happier
Untill the dredded update day
Sorry for my dissapointment but before people start jumping in offering thier opions they should read all that has gone before
One other thing as most of my files are laid down in passthrough using Handbrake i dont use Exclusive mode as i only use plex for home cinema and always have done with great success giving me DTS-HD MA 5.1 / 7.1 when available
Why do people imply that not giving Plex Exclusive mode extinguishes DTS-HD MA out put it does not if you have an able AV receiver
