Indeed.

I don’t use plex for music st the minute. Does anyone that does know if composer is implemented yet.

Well, we’re coming up to the third anniversary since this was first requested, and no, it is not yet implemented.

@Susan: We’ve not forgotten about or ignored classical music or guest artists. Those are both areas that we’re looking into.

In the comments here: https://blog.plex.tv/2015/04/30/plex-music-goes-eleven/#comments there is a slight indication that we might see an improvement in classical music management. Let us hope so.

Nah - that was just the announcement of the Premium Music Library feature. Still no Composer, or full support for ID3v2 tags, so we’re still waiting (and waiting).

Voted !!! Much needed feature in PMS, will also affect clients, but until PMS and PlexWeb support “By Composer” development cannot take place in order clients (official or non-official).

This and non-ALAC playback on iOS and no Gapless playback is the only thing that prevents me from using the music side of plex; now that they have sorted out searching for various artists within compilations (I take the forums word on this, as i’ve not tested myself).

ABSOLUTELY. I spent a long time getting my tags properly done. Having sort levels below that would also be nice, e.g. composer->genre->artist. btw Minimserver does this beautifully.

Others have mentioned roonlabs as an option also; I looked it up on YouTube to get a feel. Plex are aware of us with classical music. Just have to wait to see what they do.

Personally, I’m getting a little tired of waiting, The Roon music system already wipes the floor with what Plex offers, and it’s been on the market for less than a year. However, I totally understand that Plex’s priorities are lightyears away from those of classical music lovers. If I want a first class music experience now, I won’t be looking to Plex to provide it.

I looked at roon. The yearly sub and the fear of getting screamed at by the better half puts me off; I have to keep things simple. We have plex and iTunes already. Of course, Apple Music is not good for listening to music from the phone; it won’t even load a large collection of some 56K tracks (classical, mostly). So we have iTunes with the remote app for airplaying.

Yes, Roon ain’t cheap. It’s aimed at a different (and much smaller) audience as well - audiophiles who happen to love music, not just the sound it makes. I like it so much that I’ve invested in a lifetime sub. Just hope that the company will stick around long enough to give me a good return.

Does the iOS app act as a player or purely a remote? Just plugging in headphones to iPad at night and listening would be good. If it were a player it would help until plex introduce gapless playback and ALAC support for iOS app.

Sorry, no idea, I don’t have any Apple products. You could ask in the relevant Roon forum:

It feels like we’re Waiting for Godot.

it’s defiantly on their radar (https://blog.plex.tv/2015/04/30/plex-music-goes-eleven/#comments):

Chris C
@afullmark: We’re definitely interested in improving music support even more and we know that tracking things like composers are important in a lot of cases. No specific details to share, but that area of stuff is definitely on our radar.

They’ve been saying things like “definitely on our radar” for a long time now, and it’s been three years since this feature was first asked for. Pardon me if I take statements like this with a large pinch of salt.
