Sorry, no idea, I don’t have any Apple products. You could ask in the relevant Roon forum:
https://community.roonlabs.com/c/appleios

I wanted to thank you for the headsup regarding roon. Once they implement chromecast audio (which they said they are) and direct listening on iOS (which i hear involves Xamarin making a change) i’m switching. Plex is perfect for visual media, but just isn’t that good, for me, with music (especially classical, which is my partners passion).

You can add my vote for this one.

Just the occasional reminder: Voting is achieved by clicking ‘Like’ on the first post in the thread. +1 posts are not counted, and serve only to bump the thread to the top of the list.

This would be great. I usually have the Orchestra in the Artist tag or the Performer. The id3 tags have the Composer, but not Orchestra.
I have manually matched my classical collection under each Composer instead of Artist.

Classical music presents what appears to be a tough puzzle.  Probably most albums are focused on the composer (“Mozart: The Complete Symphonies”), while others are focused on the ensemble and/or conductor, which may include works by several composers (“The Academy By Request”, Neville Marriner & Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields), and still others are focused on an individual (Paul Goodwin, “Oboe & Oboe d’amore Concertos”)

I actually don’t think it’s that tough if you support the right tags.

For classical, this only really requires two new tags: a Composer tag, and a Work tag. So, for instance, if you wanted to search for Mozart symphonies, you could browse to

Composer: Mozart
Work: Symphony No. 40

There you would see “album” entries for the symphony from your Complete Symphonies disc and, if the same work appeared on another album, you’d see that entry too.

I’m guessing this is how 90% of classical listeners would use it: if you want to listen to a particular work, it’s more useful to see the work than the album it’s on. If I have one recording of Tosca, I want to browse to Puccini, then Tosca, then listen. If I have six recordings, I want to browse to Puccini, then Tosca, then pick one. I do not want to have to start by remembering which company or which conductor I’m looking for.

The option should still be there to sort by album or artist for cases where you want to do so–for example, a singer’s recital disc. But really what you want is composer (which is supported by many current ID3 systems) and work (which sadly isn’t).

Yeah, I figured that out sometime later, and found additional tags in the ID3 spec that do exactly that. I opened this feature request.

Please, please let us have a Composer field. New premium user; bringing in 10k tracks or so, all of which have manually validated Composer tags. Trying to escape iTunes - this is (as others have said) really the only stumbling block to doing so).

Yeah this would be great, or to be able to click on an artist within a compilations and also go to an artist and see singles from compilations. I would pay extra for that option!

+1 better use of embedded tags is needed!

Every track needs a composer/writer field. This is quite basic for all genres. Ideally Plex should be able to store all information normally found on the physical media packaging.

+1 composer field!

DEVELOPERS!!! I LOVE PLEX, but I also can’t believe it has been so many years and the ability to browse by Composers has not yet been implemented. It can’t possibly be that difficult, code-wise, right?

Proper classical music support is important for your business - older people who have the money to spend on fancy tech setups at home with Plex are also much more likely to have a large classical music collection. As it has stood for years, it’s not fun to explore one’s classical library in Plex, and it’s difficult to find what one wants.

We MUST have the ability to browse by Composers, edit the Composer Tag, and an option to make a Plex Mix based on an individual composer would be a very useful cherry on top.

Since all votes were lost with the new forum changeover, I have taken the opportunity to rework one of my ID3 tag feature requests into a more comprehensive request for tag support.

This would be a great opportunity to consolidate all the votes that were spread across so many threads before, and maybe get some much-needed attention.

This is indeed an absolute necessity for Classical Music libraries and lovers. I do not understand how come PLEX developers have not seen and recognized this even after 7 years of requests. I am regretting more and more my Plex Pass now. This Feature request (and the one about the ID3 Tag support for robust music library) were my first two votes of the 5 that I have.

Please PLEX, make this work. I am sure it is not that difficult to add Composer field so we can Order by and Recognize by Composers. It is essential!

+1. Can’t even pretend to be useful for classical music (and some modern) without Composer support.

Arranging by composer is. of course, essential. Right now it’s just chaos on the left sidebar. Inside the composer folders there also needs to be an organizing principle, preferably alphabetical. Again, it’s chaos right now.

Does anyone on this forum have an inside line to the developers? It’s astounding that they don’t seem to respond in some way to all these requests from so many for so many years. Come on folks! Let’s go…

As a Plex Pass user (lifetime) who listens to classical music, I find it irritating that they just won’t add this field to make Plex “compatible” to classical music, but keep implementing features like this video game streaming thing no-one asked for and next to no-one needs.

So true.
The absence of a dedicated composer field is very annoying as searching one’s music collection is unnecessarily difficult.
Adding a composer field would make Plex truly great for classical music lovers.
I can’t believe this has not been added yet as good streaming options are scarce for classical music and classical music lovers usually are very picky on which versions they like. Not to mention several labels are not available for streaming.

So please, please, please, Plex, do add arranging by composer to make Plex the best option for classical music aficionados !!!

(Music) Add “artist last played” field.
(Music) Add popularity as a new track sort field.
(Music) Allow periodic music refresh to perform metadata upgrades.
(Music) If a single directory appears to have multiple albums, match them all.
(Music) Support for ‘releasetime’ tags in FLAC to give precise release dates.

So they work on metadata, but still we get no “composer” tag. This is ridiculous.
