Server Version (Synology)#: 1.27.2.5929
Player Version#: 9.4.1.33413 (Plex Android app)
Hi,
I hope i chose the right place for my question.
I installed Plex on my Synology DS920+ (DSM 7) and it all went well.
What i wanted to do was to use Plex on my Android to stream music to my Cambridge Audio Sonata NP30 (i know I can use Synology DS Audio) but for what i read, Plex doesn’t support that feature.
I can access my Plex music library directly through the NP30 but i can’t stream from the Plex app to the network player.
Does anyone know a workaround to make it work the way I want, or if Plex will add that functionality?
If it matters, both Synology and Cambridge Audio are connected through ethernet.
(More info: “The Sonata NP30 can access a wide range of audio from UPnP servers or local
media and directly from the internet
…
you can access your own locally stored music
from USB flash-disks or hard-drives and network connected UPnP servers”
That is correct. That connection uses DLNA, which the Plex app does not support. PMS has a DLNA server that allows DLNA clients like the NP30 itself to access content. If you want to control the NP30 from your Android device, you’ll need to install a separate Android DLNA client app to do it.
Sorry but can you explain a little more since i’m completely noob with Plex?
So if want to stream to NP30 and control it with my phone, i need another app like BubbleUPnP. Is that what you’re saying?
Correct. Your receiver uses the DLNA protocol to talk to other devices. Plex does not use this protocol, we use our own proprietary connection to talk to other Plex apps. Plex does support modern protocols like Chromecast to send data to those devices, and AirPlay for Apple devices. DLNA is an old protocol and hasn’t changed/updated much in like 20 years.
An app like BubbleUPnP is a DLNA client so it can talk to other DLNA apps like what’s built into your NP30, but it cannot talk to Plex apps and Plex apps can’t talk to it.
