I am playing some .aif files, Plex reads them ok, but when I play them using Plexamp I get
that they are being transcoded… but yet on Plex it’s showing as direct play?? Can anyhow one answer this for me at all please? Many thanks

PlexAmp will cache several songs ahead so when it starts playing, the server doesn’t know if the cache was made from a transcode or the original. It doesn’t see that since it’s already been done so it thinks it is direct playing. What you see in PlexAmp is correct.
You cannot rely on the Plex dashboard as Plexamp pre-caches the file in some cases. The truth is shown in the Plexamp display. Plexamp supports PCM inside of AIFF but perhaps there’s something else? A log would show.
I’m missing something, help!
What is going wrong? Is it not playing? The Plexamp screen looks OK.
You say “it is being transcoded” - where do you see that?

It’s not a supported variant. Convert it to a better codec which will save on space and be more compatible.
