Can DVR record streamed content?

The Plex website says all over it that it can be used as a DVR for live TV if I have a tuner and HD antenna. I have a few questions I have not been able to find straight answers to. I would like them answered before I pay for the premium service.

  1. Can you record streaming content from network sites? For example, can I record from the CW’s app, rather than using an antenna?
  2. Can you record content from Hulu Live or SlingTV or something like that?
  3. When you record, can you record with captions? Is it easy to do?
  4. Can you skip commercials for all recordings, or only some?

Thanks!

No, but… you can record from SiliconDust’s HomeRun Premium TV Service from Plex. You have to a) purchase either an HomeRun Connect or HomeRun Extend tuner (both of which will also work with an antenna) and b) subscribe to the Silicon Dust’s premium TV service.

Alternatively, you could use PlayOn software to record from streaming sites (http://playon.tv).

Thank you. We have PlayOn, but captions don’t record most of the time, and our son has a hearing problem. Does Plex record captions well? And can you skip commercials easily?
