I have a relatively new Plex system, however none of my current systems actually have the required connections to make use of 5.1 channel audio streams. Just for the general info:
The Plex app on my LG TV (WebOS) in the lounge has the output configured to “external”, which uses a stereo audio cable. This works perfectly. Similarly, the Plex app on my phone and tablet also plays audio streams in stereo, which is correct.
The problem I have currently in with my desktop PC running Linux Mint 18, which has a standard stereo seakers attached to my soundcard’s audio output jack. I’m not all that interested in building and running PMP on my desktop, so I simply use the web UI bundled with PMS, but this is where I have a problem… Playing any media that has 5.1 channel audio, I only get what sounds like background music with no voices.
I’ve searched for “downmixing” in the Plex FAQ pages, which returns only one page relating to “Plex Home Theatre”, and searching Google returns results for specific devices, not the bundled web UI.
Adapting suggestions from other threads based on the settings they described, I’ve tried disabling all the “direct” options in PMS “Settings > Web > Player”, but it doesn’t make any difference. How can I force the player in my browser to downmix all audio to stereo?
