I’m asking about protecting specifically some tv series on my DVR which I want to keep long term. sometimes, I find a episode or two of our favorite longtime shows in the recycle bin and I drag them back into respective folders before I empty the Recycle Bin.
Check the recording schedule for the series and ensure that the advance settings “Keep” and “Delete Episodes After Playing” are set to “All episodes” and “Never” respectively:
Next, edit the series itself (hover over the show poster and click the pencil icon). The same two settings as above will be on the advanced tab; ensure they are set as above as well.
This will prevent Plex from automatically removing episodes based on count or played status.
settings are as suggested… asking if me; the administrator can select specific dvr tv series (folders) shows not to be deleted or end up in recycle bin
The only other setting related to media deletion is this one, located in Settings → [Select Server] → Library (Show Advanced):
Unchecking that box (and saving) will disallow manual media deletion.
If you’re still seeing media being deleted after doing that, then it’s happening outside of Plex Media Server’s control; you’ll need to find what’s deleting the media and configure it not to do so.

Thanks for you thoughts, I only want to restrict deletions to specific series’ (folders). presently I’m able to see episodes in recycle bin which I drop back into the series folder before Recycle Bin is emptied … and all is happy
Greetings, I’ve seen this. Its how my plex is presently setup. we mostly record to DVR and binge watch. Sometimes a favorite show in a series is deleted, I drag it back to it’s series folder before Recycle Bin is emptied.
Yes, this works with most of my dvr recordings. But its an all or nothing selection. So I’ve selected nothing. I’m asking to “selectively protect” my favorite dvr series or folders. So far finding deleted shows in Recycle bin, and returning them back to where they were before I empty has been working. just looking for a way to protect “my favorites” in the DVR would be incredible
I understand what you’re asking for, but there’s no good way to accomplish it other than the methods which I’ve already mentioned. If you lock down the permissions on the folder(s) to which you are recording, Plex will no longer be able to write to them, defeating the purpose of having a DVR.
I’d recommend you try to determine what is deleting the files. If you’ve configured the recording/series “Keep” and “Delete…” settings the way I suggested, it’s not Plex doing the deleting.
