Well, there is a server app and I can play videos via the browser. I run the server on my windows machine but would love to run the App on my Apple machine, too.
I already installed Rosetta 2 and it does not work.
Which exact version of the Plex player app have you installed on your M1 Mac?
Based on other threads I’ve seen, the regular apps should be working via Rosetta 2. I’m not sure if the iOS app will run; my guess is it won’t and you might have accidentally installed that from the app store?
The iPad/iOS Plex app works fine on my M1 MacBook Air. But I wasn’t a big fan of the interface, as it’s touch oriented and didn’t translate well to trackpad. However the Plex HTPC app from Plex website works very well, under Rosetta. Looks identical to the Fire/AppleTV etc apps.
So I got the Plex App from the website as always. I use Plex since way back in the day and actually started when XBMC was still a thing.
Anyway, I have one of those MacBook Pro 16" with M1 Max Chip.
Exact model: Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro18,2
Chip: Apple M1 Max
Total Number of Cores: 10 (8 performance and 2 efficiency)
Memory: 32 GB
When I open the Plex desktop app it jumps just in the dock and does nothing. I have to either kill the process or force quit. There was also no prompt to install Rosetta 2. I did install Rosetta 2 manually via the terminal.
I updated everything I could and rebooted the system. No luck.
I used the latest Plex Pass version from the website. There are two versions available. Both result in the same error as described in my post above. Thanks for your answer.
Click the Settings (wrench) icon at the top-right and look for Plex for Mac → General. The actual version will be listed there. Having the real version number could be important in tracking down the issue.
