Step 1:
disable “Empty trash automatically after every scan” under
Settings - Server - Library
With your media storage outside of your server machine, you better not enable this ever again. Otherwise you may lose any manual metadata edits and the “Added at” dates.
Step 2:
verify that you can access the data on your NAS device by opening the file explorer on your Windows machine and typing in the address bar
\\192.168.1.23 + Enter
Notice: you must replace the number (i.e. the “IP address” of your NAS device) with its actual IP. Which one that is you can glean either through its own setup menu, or maybe through the management interface of your internet router device.
Step 3:
If step 2 was successful, make sure that the IP address of your NAS will never change. This can be achieved by either
- setting a fixed IP address manually in the device settings of the NAS
- telling your internet router to always use the same IP for the NAS (also called “DHCP address reservation”)
