@poodlebra did you enable the Plex skill on the echo app and link the account ?
@labashosky2010 indeed i have.
@vanstinator i’m afraid it ain’t so. alexa accepts commands for starting plex and will even respond to requests to play stuff, but no audio. it doesn’t play anywhere.
@poodlebra have you checked your SSL setting? Needs to be on
@Geoff555 it’s set to preferred.
server version is latest, and i’ve tried it with two servers, one on mac and one on NAS. same results. echo says it’s playing but there’s no sound.
Interesting. I’ll take a look at the logs and let you know what I find.
@vanstinator - do you need me to send you logs? just say which you need
Having the same issue. Have an Echo Dot and it plays Amazon Prime music no problem, but if I ask it to ask Plex to play something, it says it has set the server to the correct server, and that it is playing the music but no sound comes out anywhere.
I have secure connections set to Preferred, get the green lock when I go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop.
I did used to have plex setup to control Plex on my Roku and thought that might be causing issues, but I have done a complete deregister/reregister and removal/reload of all the skills on the dot which made no difference.
@vanstinator I don’t know whether it helps but I have discovered my echo does not so much stop playing but pauses.
When it appears to stop playing a track I give the command “Alexa, Continue Playing” and it does so - precisely from the point it stopped.
Is it possible that an “Alexa, Pause” command is somehow randomly being issued within the software?
The “Continue playing” command does not always work at the end of a track when play stops. However, if it does then it starts to play midway through the next track! If it fails a “Play Next Track” will start play but it will skip a track in the album.
@vanstinator a bit more information - I have noticed that if I ask alexa to play an album it starts the first track and playback is stopped/paused at some point before the end. However, if I then ask alexa to play the same album again that first track plays right through without a hitch. In fact it seems to “remember” what albums have been played as I can then go back to a previously played album and the first track plays completely without a problem (not sure how far this “memory” goes back)
In all cases the second track does not play.
I have the same problem, accepts the command, but no music out of the device!!!
any movement on this? if i can get this working i want to grab a few echo units while they’re on cheap this week.
Checking logs
@poodlebra and/or @pdplexvideo can you send me an example file that you’ve had fail and a log dump from PMS after you repro again locally? AVS is reporting a strange error on their end and it’s either file related or transcoder related. A file and logs will allow me to narrow it down.
Borrowed my son’s Echo, installed the Plex Skill and had the same result. First track of an albums starts to play and then stops/pauses midway through.
Just wondering if the Plex team have managed to identify the issue from the logs submitted and, as a result, are close to releasing a fix for these playback issues ?
I am having the same issue as some above, I say Alexa, ask plex to play songs by Radiohead and it responds “Playing music by Radiohead” but no audio comes out.
Let me know what I should send in and I will get on it. Thanks!
I’m having the same issue - no music audio coming out of the echo. I noticed that the Skill description on Amazon (US) mentions playback on echo devices, but on the Amazon (UK) site (which I use), it doesn’t make mention of it. Is the same functionality available on both the US and UK version of the Skill?
@Geoff555 it’s Thanksgiving week in the states so it might be another week until I can properly address the issue you’re facing. I know roughly what’s going on but I need to talk to one of our server devs who is out for the week.
The rest of you if someone could send me PMS logs (after reproducing the issue again) and an example file that fails I’d appreciate it. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files
There’s one specific error AVS is throwing that appears to be impacting the most people and I can’t get a handle on it without seeing what is going on with PMS.
@vanstinator - which log do you need - there are lots
This feature is working quite well. I say something like “Computer, ask plex to play Running With Scissors.” Alexa plays the correct album starting from The Saga Begins.
Now the problem is if I ask for something like, “Computer, ask plex to play White Christmas.” Alexa assumes I mean the album not the movie. Also my echo dot has limited audio quality. Sometimes I want to play the song through the TV.
How do I specify movie, vs song? TV vs echo? One of the most humorious results is when I ask plex to play Christmas music and instead it plays some random TV series.
