Can Plex Media Player on Windows 10 Direct Play Live TV?

Hello,

Can Plex Media Player (latest version) on Windows 10 Direct Play Live TV?

I am aware that I might need to provide further details particular to my setup, but though that I would just initially ask the question as it might already be well known in these forums that the answer is no.

As things stand whenever I play any live TV on PMP it appears as a Direct Stream with some conversion taking place. I had hoped that I would be able to install codec packs, etc to allow Live TV to work natively (Direct Play) but have thus far been unsuccessful. I did wonder whether Direct Stream was actually the best case scenario for Live TV but my Android phone does Direct Play content when watching Live TV. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
James

There is Direct Stream and there is Direct Stream

If you see Direct Stream for both the audio and the video stream, then this is almost as light on the server as Direct Play.

It might also be possible to get only one of the streams as Direct Stream and the other as Transcode.
But that won’t happen with PMP, but only with other clients. And this will then be more demanding on the server.

So yeah, Direct Stream of both video and audio might be the best you can expect for live tv.
