I am trying to get PleX to read my NFO files. I would like to add more metadata to specific files, mostly cast and crew information.
I was told this was possible by using some plugins.
Can anyone explain to me how this might be possible?
Plex will currently read IMDb references from nfo files as matching hint.
Thereās been an announcement this fall how Plex plans to rework their environment, incl. options to read metadata from nfo files.
This applies only to movies.
If the nfo contains the IMDb ID number, which you can see in the URL of a movieās page, then Plex can use it to match a movie. But only if it is a movie and not a tv show or mini series.
Example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13622970/
This part tt13622970 is the IMDb ID.
I came here looking for a potential fix for a long-time issue I have organizing shows that have movies and specials outside of the normal seasons.
Looks like NFO support is gone, but Iām really excited about what might be coming down the pipeline!
What kind of info goes into an NFO file? Can Plex maintain metadata if I give it TMDB IDs?
For instance, I want to change the order of episodes in a season without relying on TVDB or TMDB as neither are going to do it correctly, but I want their metadata.
So I make an NFO file, listing however I want these episodes ordered, OR I order the episodes and make an NFO file that says āfilename X uses TMDB ID 5555555ā.
Is either of those cases something you have in mind?
