Can’t download/sync to iPad

Server Version#:

When trying to download a movie to an iPad after it has already been converted, I get an error window: Uh-oh Service error Not Found.

I just wasted $ on the lifetime Plex pass and can’t use the most wanted feature. So frustrating!

Mind sharing some more details?
e.g. what version of PMS / Plex for iOS do you have installed, are you syncing to your iPad or from your iPad… – given your point about the recent Plex Pass purchase… have you tried rebooting the PMS and force-quitting/restarting the iOS app sine you got your Plex Pass?

Those are great questions. Unfortunately I am not tech savvy enough to answer them, yet was apparently tech savvy enough to set it up in the first place a number of years ago.

Plex Web - General says Version 4.56.4

iOS 14.5.1 (iPad and iPhone). Yes I was trying to sync to my iPad from my iPad. I had the web plex inteface open in Safari web browser, was telling it there which media I wanted to sync, then would switch to the iPad plex app and tap on Sync and then got the error message.

Trying again this morning. It says it is converting 81% done. Fingers crossed.

I think PMS is installed on a western digital mycloud home network drive, but I don’t see an app icon for plex on that drive, just folders with my media.

I am downloading Mac versions of Plex Media Server and Plex for Mac.

I usually use Plex through an Apple TV. My media is stored on a the afore mentioned WD MyCloudHome network drive.

Any thoughts on how to determine where my PMS is running and what version?

Thank you for helping out the newb!

I deleted and re-downloaded the Plex app on my iPad. When I opened it, it said I have multiple servers available to me, then listed my iPad twice, plus my WD my cloud. I have no idea why it thinks I have 2 servers on my ipad, nor do I know how to remove them. Any thoughts?

Syncing will take some time if Plex needs to optimize the video – in particular if the server is on a NAS which usually means they’re not super powerful (meaning the transcoding will take longer). Not sure if/why you had to re-install the app on your iPad if the sync was still in progress.

When you open a newly installed Plex client app, it’ll ask you for a preferred server to prepare which libraries to be pinned to your main navigation (you can still pin libraries from other servers to the navigation but until you do they’ll all be showing under More in that navigation menu). The iPad itself does not usually run a Plex Media Server… so I’m a bit surprised about your statement you see your iPad listed as server?!
If you did at some point install a Plex Media Server e.g. on another PC/device (on top of the WD My Cloud Home), this server will show up in the selection. If you’re no longer using that server you can unlink it from your account using the same link I posted above.

I was getting this same exact error message on my iPhone. I followed the steps on this reddit post and it appears to be working. https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/cualpw/ios_mobile_sync_not_working_uhoh_service_error/
