Can’t import Dolby Atmos .m4a files

Some time ago I asked the question if I can add music in Dolby Atmos to Plex. The answer from a developer was: “Dolby Atmos needs to be licensed in order to be decodable by a device. I don’t know of any device capable of/licensed to decode Dolby Atmos music.”

After much research, I have now managed to add songs in Dolby Atmos in m4a format to Kodi and play them through the Shield Pro via my Denon receiver. It sounds brilliant!

Now I have created a separate music library and run the scan after this Dolby Atmos album. Unfortunately without any result.
It can’t be due to the lack of licensing.

Dolby Atmos needs to be licensed in order to be decodable by a device. I don’t know of any device capable of/licensed to decode Dolby Atmos music. There may be some special music player that can do this. This is not the same as Dolby Atmos audio for video playback. Exactly, video is not the same as music. Tidal has probably licensed the codec for their player. I don’t know what Kodi does, but it can decode lots of codecs that Plex can’t.
