Dolby Atmos Music on Nvidia SHIELD

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5663
Player Version#: 9.3.0.32695

I’m not sure if this is a server issue or a player issue, but Atmos music (M4a files with EAC3 codec streams) plays back exclusively in 2ch mode (or not at all in the Plex plugin for Kodi). The same file converted to an MP4 plays back fine when I stick it in a video library, so I imagine it’s something related to the way Plex handles music.

Has anyone else had any luck with Atmos music, or is this just a known limitation of Plex?

Hey. The music player in the app is different than the video player. AFAIK the music player supports mp3, flac, opus, ogg, dsd, ape, mpc, wavpack, aac, alac.

…I came to post the same thing. Is it possible to enable passthrough of E-AC3 / Atmos files in the music app?

Kodi plays and passes atmos tracks in an .m4a container without any issue. If I stick it in a mkv container (with no video), the video player passes it through. Is it an option to use the video player when playing music? Seems like an easy win?

E-AC3 .m4a Atmos Music “audio-only” files work fine with Emby when placing them in Emby’s Music folder (Atmos gets pass-through’d) so why not with Plex?
