Hi guys
so recently Tidal has introduced Dolby Atmos music, will there be a way to play atmos music files, or at least decode it to Dolby 5.1 in future updates?
If it is in the pipeline, that will be great!
Hi guys

There is already a request for this feature. Rather than splitting votes over several threads, it’s best to add your vote and comments there.
I don’t think this is a duplicate, as it explicitly refers to music.
This one then:
That one is currently restricted to Android and flac files. I don’t think flac can store Atmos or any other of the proprietary surround sound formats.
Seems like splitting hairs, but ok.
My request, Correctly identify & display…, concerns displaying “Atmos” for the appropriate audio tracks (ex: display “Atmos/TrueHD” instead of just “TrueHD”). Plex already supports playing Atmos audio tracks in movie/tv/etc files.
Extending that to music files makes sense. However, Plex would have to support playback of Atmos music files first. I don’t use Plex for music, so no idea what currently happens with Atmos music files in Plex.
Regarding Plex supporting Atmos music via Tidal, the Intro to Tidal with Plex document does not mention Atmos, but does note that MQA audio is not supported. As noted in this thread, there would be licensing issues in addition to any necessary Plex product modifications.
Edit:
Apparently not currently supported. Doesn’t mean it cannot happen, just not happening now.
From Dolby Atmos Music at support.tidal.com:
How does Dolby Atmos Music on TIDAL work for devices that are not Dolby Atmos enabled?
When a device and/or connected playback system is not Dolby Atmos enabled, the TIDAL app will recognize this and the stereo version of the track will be played. The user will be notified with an in-app notification.
Yea, I don’t understand why this is not supported. Atmos movies play / pass through just fine. If I try to play Atmos music files in my library or Atmos music from Tidal, I get stereo versions sent to my reciever. (This is on my 2019 ver Shield) If I take those same files and change the extension to MP4 and create a video library, They trigger the flag on my receiver and play as atmos audio. If I use the Tidal app on my shield (not plex) they play fine. If I use Kodi on my shield, it passes through and plays fine. Please include the ability to play Atmos music in plex.
this came up in another thread, my workaround as there doesn’t seem to be support in Plex for ATMOS encoded audio files was to make to rename the files MP4 and add them as “Personal Video Files”.
Hey guys, so awesome enough, when I play the files direct through an LG TV passing to a Samsung Q950T, it works flawlessly
I’d also love this. I switched to Tidal for music a few months ago because of the Plex integration and was pretty disappointed when I went to check out the Atmos playlist they were advertising to me and it didn’t play in Atmos through Plex - forced me to use the Tidal app for it.
My movies and TV shows in Plex have working Atmos, only makes sense music should be supported as well.
Playing Atmos music on my iOS devices, macOS, and Fire TV devices all failed, and even though Plex claimed they were being direct played, they were just being transcoded to opus. Playing them on my Roku, however, worked fine. Really wish there was more support for this.
With plexamp I can play dolby atmos (aac) but it sounds terrible way to soft. That is really a problem.
