Can the plex plugin in kodi be updated?

The plex plugin in kodi is still in version 0.1.6, and the last update date is May 12, 2018.
Can you update this plugin now? Don’t forget its existence!

Plex abandoned the Kodi add-on. There is an unofficial version by a developer on Git Hub that was updated in April. It’s not without problems but better than the out of date official Kodi addon.

Make sure to download from the developer branch on that page. That version was updated April 23 and is 145 commits ahead of the official version.

Do you know how to add this to Kodi? Will Kodi just let me install the git zip file as an addon?
