To answer the original question, yes you can have AAC LATM and MP2 direct play support! The latest beta 6.13 includes our new player with support for direct playing lots of new formats and containers, enjoy!!

Using Plex for Android 6.14.0, direct play of aac latm doesn’t work: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/310365/aac-latm-transcoding-but-should-direct-play-plex-for-android-6-14-0#latest

Investigating this at the moment, it does appear that it’s not working correctly on Android TV devices.

@sixones I tried a show with AAC LATM and overlay reported ‘Direct Play’; however, I didn’t see mention of a fix in release notes.

The fix was in 6.14.1, the issue was that the PCM channel detection was returning an incorrect channel count and it made the player think that software decoding wouldn’t be possible on some devices. Here’s the release entry:

ExoPlayer v2: ensure software decoding detects the available PCM channels correctly.

Thank you. Most appreciated. If DVB subtitles could be support too, that would be wonderful.
