+1 for DS916+ hardware transcoding from a new lifetime Plex Pass holder. Merry Christmas!
Guys,it’s here…download the new preview server.i can’t get it work but the code is there now,try your luck
Vswraith:
I just checked that link, and it doesn’t specify Synology in the list:
Computer
Mac OS X (10.8 or newer)
Windows (Windows 7 or newer)
Ubuntu (Intel 64-bit)
Fedora/CentOS (Intel 64-bit)
NAS
NETGEAR ReadyNAS OS 6 (Intel)
QNAP (Intel 64-bit (QTS-4.3 or newer))
UnRAID (Intel 64-bit)
ASUSTOR (Intel 64-bit)
Thecus (Intel 64-bit)
Seagate (Intel)
WD MyCloud DL2100, WD MyCloud DL4100, WD MyCloud PR2100, WD MyCloud PR4100
Yeah, the Synology package is now removed as it did not work, I PM’ed the Dev and seems they will try n get it working with Docker. They will upload the docker package once the other Dev’s are back from holidays…so gotta wait a little longer
Thanks Vswraith. At least we can tell they are trying to prepare this. I’d like to buy a Synology NAS. I can wait a little while for the dust to settle. It looks promising.
Thanks for letting us know about this! Hoping for a synology build soon!
My DS916+ calls me on my phone at night to tell me “pleaseeeeee letttt me do hardware transcoding with Plexxxxx”.
You just can’t say no to that ?
We gotta wait, there is no 64bit package for Plex, for now HW decoding is only via Docker.

I Don’t know if this is THE topic where te votes are counted for de Plex transcoding for the ds916+ but I realy would like this feature.I wanted to buy the ds916+ (I almost hit the buy buttom ) and then I read about that the NAS can’t even play a single 1080p file because of this missing feature in plex.
thats a great bummer because plex media server is the reason I would buy a NAS.
Same here. But I already bought DS916+ and very disappointed to know PLEX cant do hardware transcoding ![]()
The 916+ is now at the center of my house and Plex is one of my main service but I’d like to have less frictions when watching specific content since transcoding can be really slow. I vote for this feature. Thank you !
+1 Not having HW transcoding on DS916+ is a big negative.
Use docker. There’s no reason not to on the 916+, works like a charm.
Makes things a whole load easier as well to move stuff around without upsetting the plex installation as the mounts don’t change inside the container.
I put together an SPK for the latest version of docker (it’s on the synology forums), you lose the gui (but you can use portainer which is a great web gui and runs in a container!) and doesn’t suffer from the problems that the synology docker has. (it’s a mess, it doesn’t start containers correctly)
Please bring hardware transcoding to the D916+!

You can do it already, use docker.
+1 for hardware acceleration for Synology ds916+
Thanks.
Plex on Synology is frustrating - support of hw transcoding would be amazing!
I keep looking at these kinds of products. I just can’t get to them being a better and more long term solution to having a i5/i7 quad core with either Intel QSV or AMD based video solution. HW transcoding is only going to get this type of hardware so far. Is that “far” far enough?
Seems to me not.
IMHO get solid NAS array device to be a file server put the money you don’t spend on the NAS towards the hardware in a PC that will make Plex perform at its peak.
+1; Count me in
I have ds 216+II
Please!!! Especially with H265 now we need this more than ever. Please please do it!
