Can We Upgrade Shield Now? Before Was Bad For Plex ... 1,500 Comments Before!

I believe everyone was running 8.23 and then upgraded to 9.1 at the time for the Shield. I was one of them. It was a total Nightmare for Plex. However, that 1,500 comment thread is closed.

I had rolled back my 9.1 to 8.23. That was a Real Pain but doable.

Now I feel like I finally have to reboot my Shield every now and again for various reasons.

Seems logical to just let the Shield finally update/upgrade and maybe everything will run smoother. However, no real solution or comments were made at the end of that 1,500 comment thread from 2022.

What’s the latest? Does anyone know. Should I keep my Shield at 8.23? Would that be better than upgrading the software to whatever it is now vs the PMS disappearing?

New Information?

Thoughts?

You’re way behind the times  No issues.

Are you sure?

I don’t see anything in that thread that said everything is now good to go. I really do not want to update the Shield and loose the ability for Android to see the Plex Server.

Has this been fixed for a while now with no issues with the latest Shield Update?

The problem is there have been so many iterations of the PMS server since then there is no way to predict what would happen now with an upgrade to the experience 9 with the current DB structures etc. It is relatively easy nowadays to recover in the event of failure if you have a back up beforehand off server. I do it at least once a month with no issues. My experience with the upgrade has been better now than without it, i.e. the actual Shield experience 9 up from 8. Good luck!

So you are saying that after you upgraded you can see your server and/or files? i.e. external hard drives connected to your Shield? I am starting to see a lot of disconnecting issues so I am thinking I really do not have a choice at this point. I am just hoping that they worked out all of the bugs. However, watch, once I upgrade, everything will break.

Go for it. Back up your database and metadata. It’s pretty easy to recover in the event something goes wrong, but ideally you wouldn’t need to do anything after the upgrade.

I hear there was another big update.

Is everything working or does the External Hard Drives dissappear messing up your Plex Media Server?

I have my plex media server on external hard drives connected to my Nvidia Shield.

Please Advise:

It’s not a big update. It’s actually just a hotfix, you only receive it if you sign up for hotfixes between major updates. Otherwise it won’t touch your device.

I use the 9.1.2 full update version 790 GB, activated in the developer options. I have not lost my Plex server and it is visible in the settings. I use an SSD as a storage extension for the Shield (Internal user), so I also have access to "\Android\data". The USB hard drives are connected directly to the Shield via a USB hub and have never been lost. 9.0.0 was a Nightmare, but 9.1.1 with Hotfix 1 was great, with Hotfix2 it is much better.
Use an internal user Plex Server and make a backup. If 9.1.2 is nothing for you, roll back to 8.2.3 and restore your plex database.
