Say my friend shared/added me to his media server and I would also like to add my roommate to it.
If I have Plex Pass can I just share my friends library to others in my household? Or does he have to actually invite them to it like he did me?

no you cannot re-share access to someone elses server.
your friend would have to invite your roommate directly.
of course, your roommate could watch on your account/device, but obviously that isn’t good security, nor does it keep watched states separately.
I’d like some clarification:
Currently, I use 3 managed users for myself and my family members. Nobody views content on the base Admin account itself. Are you saying that if a friend of mine offers his Plex server to me and I accept the invite on the main account, that all Managed Users of my account are unable to view the friend’s content?
Correct
Only you on the admin account can view your friends server
Nuts. I’ve been meaning to bite the bullet and convert all my user accounts to separate emails, invited to the home of the server. This would visibly appear the same to each member (quick switch), but hopefully allow each user access to the “Discover” feature, since that is disabled for managed users.
Unless… Invited-to-home users are restricted just like Managed users are? Do you know if a Home user is allowed to use Discover AND the Plex Pass features of the Pass-owning account?
With an account using its own email I know you can invite that person into your Plex home and they get all the Plex Pass benefits. (skip into ect…) I did this with myself and a 2nd id and server
I suspect the discover feature would work the same way but I don’t use it, so I’m not 100% sure
I’m afraid if you convert the managed users into an email account user, that person may lose all their watch history
Yeah, not a big deal. Knowing which movies/shows have been watched or not won’t matter to any of us. We watch and re-watch media all the time, so more likely we’d prefer if all our media resets to “unwatched” rather than keeping track.
More likely the biggest hurdle to converting over will be to repopulate our “Continue Watching” queue. I myself have 10-20 different cartoons there that I am in progress on, though most likely I won’t ever resume them and will start over, so even that isn’t a big deal.
Anyway, thanks for clarifying the differences between home users and managed users. I am sorry I hijacked TeknicallyChallenged’s post for this side-bar, but my questions are hopefully of benefit to their original question and possibly can eliminate any followups.
I’ve been asking for an export from managed home users (no plex account) to unmanaged home users (individual plex accounts) for years.
Because like, kids etc grow up and move out.
I totally see the use case for this and it keeps popping up… there’s a related feature suggestion but it doesn’t have all that much attention…
There are quite a few ways to transfer the watch history between users.
However I guess, you would rather see an official one.
