Can you edit/add metadata files manually?

Hi,

I’ve got (and by the looks of the forums other people do too) an ongoing problem with Plex and metadata. Sometimes no matter what I do Plex will not download the metadata for me. I’ve put a few posts up on Reddit and on Plex’s forum:

Plex forums

1st Reddit post

2nd Reddit post

I think by the looks of it I’m stuck with the behavior short term. Editing the metadata only go so far as you can’t do something with the editor in Plex (such as edit the actors). So I was wondering, as a short term fix, if the movies have a metadata folder already within Plex’s can I just put the XML files there myself?

For example: I have an issue with 2001 - A Space Odyssey. If one of you kind people uploaded all your metadata folder for this movieand I moved it in to the correct folder within my Plex app folder (obviously changing the file locations), would that then be read correctly by Plex and allow things such as actors to be found within Plex?

Is there some tool I can use to scrape the info? Would one of you kind people have said folder so I can try it?

Thanks in advance

There are 3rd party .nfo importer agents
but it has currently an incompatibility which will be only resolved with a newer Plex Server release

The Name of the Movie is:
2001 A Space Odyssey (1968)

You’ve been asked (this is #2) to provide logs:

Drag zip file to message window and drop it.

If you can provide logs we can get to the bottom of ‘your metadata issue’ very quickly.

Thanks for that, I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I really dont think its a naming issue as it happens with other files (e.g. “An Honest Liar (2014)”) and I have tried matching manually. However I’ve renamed the file and we will see what Plex does.

Sorry I missed your original request. I’ll post a reply in the other thread. I’d be interested to see if I can just grab someone’s folder though.
