Cannot access Plex Server on QNAP NAS (TS-251+)

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 1.41.3

I cannot view any Plex Movies and TV Shows except on my own home network, whilst at home. If I am at any other location, they are listed however cannot be viewed. Ever.

I have signed in to my Plex account on friend’s TV’s around the world, and although I can see what movies and TV Shows are available, nothing will play. Period. Ever.

Of note, I CAN access Plex on my phone from anywhere, and view on my phone. But, signing into my account on Plex on any TV doesn’t work, at the same place on that same network my phone is on.

Please help. I have SCOURED the internet to determine why, have reset my Router, enabled uPNP, enabled Port Forwarding, and done everything else mentioned by Plex and QNAP, however I can still not play any Plex files.

I am on a Macbook Air, 2024 version, 24Gb/1Tb, latest OS version, Plex and QNAP NAS latest OS versions (I always update Server and Plex Server).

Hello arthornicroft!

It sounds like you close to getting playback on your remote TVs.

The server log should contain some useful information, given that you can see your media remotely but not play it back. But it takes a few steps to get clean logs that are readable.

What I would do put aside a few hours for testing. The details will be critical.
The outline of what you’ll be doing is enabling debug mode logging, power cycling all hardware, demonstrating success on a remote phone for 30sec, demonstrating failure on a remote TV for 30sec, then stop PMS, copy the log file, sanitize, zip and upload it.

Following that outline, everything will be in one file, named:
Plex Media Server.log

Holler if you have any questions. If you’re raring to go, you can search your log file for “ERROR” or “CRITICAL” messages while you wait for us to get back.
