I first posted in Oct 2020 that I could not get Plex to maintain a connection with my QNAP NAS and I never got the issue resolved, such that I just stopped trying and forgot about Plex.
Well, I’m trying again and still can’t get it to work. I get a ‘green tick’ if I enable remote access, however I get a message saying that the file is unavailable when I try to play it. The ‘green tick’ has turned to a ‘red cross’ when I go back to the settings.
I have tried following all of the set up guides with no joy!
I use a DLink Mesh Network attached to a Broadband Server router. The NAS is connected directly to one of the DLink units and I have set a static IP for the NAS and the Mesh Network. The Router and Mesh both have Port Forwarding set to 32400 as does the Plex.
As a side issue, I use MediaMonkey to play my music files and that works playing my music files from the NAS with absolutley no isses!
Is Plex being ran on the same QNAP NAS as the media library?
Are you able to successfully play them at any time via plex?
Where are the files being stored?
Have you checked the permissions on that store so that Plex has the correct permissions?
Yes, Plex is being run on the same NAS
No, I can’t play anything, however, I used to be able to play them. This was pre 2020 before I gave up trying to get remote access stable
Files are stored in a shared folder on the NAS. They are in the same Volume as the Plex App
I’ve ensured that there is R/W permissions for Plex
The library is available in Plex as is the structure used for storing each type of media
I’ve resolved the file access issue. I resorted to deleting the Libraries and reloading them and I can now play the files.
I’m still looking to resolve the remote access issue where the connection constantly drops
