chuckPA, Can you make the instructions to reclaim your server simpler for us old folks?
@lazy-e , et al
To all here.
I was able to craft a freestanding, self-configuring utility for LInux-based machines.
This includes all flavors of Linux, Synology DSM 6 & 7, QNAP QTS and QuTS and Netgear ReadyNAS .
I hope it’s easy enough?
- Put tar file on server
- Stop Plex
- SSH into the QNAP
- extract tar file
sudo
to admin level- Invoke script
- Visit plex.tv/claim to get the token (COPY)
- PASTE the token in the script’s awaiting hands
- Hit enter and let it reclaim the server .
( I am writing slowly because I know old folks don’t read fast. Hope this is ok )
Yikes! If this was easy enough instructions for everyone else…I must be the elder here!
I’m lost on steps 3 & 5, 6.
While I wait for an answer, I’ll google a bit but I’m intimidated and would love a helping hand here!
Maybe this:
No, tried pretty much everything on that page yesterday already.
EDIT: Actually, I see there’s also some url to an SSH related topic but I can’t open it. Can you check your URL pls?
Screen capture of link please
Not sure how that’s helpful but here you are:
Or maybe you meant what page is opened when I click the link?
In that case it just reopens this page, right here.
Above page contains multiple links, so I need the name of the link not working?
I thought it was pretty obvious from what I said?:
I see there’s also some url to an SSH related topic
And this is the address the URL points to:
https://forums.plex.tv/t/cannot-access-qnap-plex-since-resetting-password/806549/66#ClaimBrowserRemote
The post is here:
And it contains two links to what I named ClaimBrowserRemote
And direct link to that when not on the post is:
I still can’t open any of those links/urls you just posted!? Now when I click, nothing happens at all, no redirect.
Can’t you post them as I did, as code? I’ll just copy/paste them then, maybe that will work.
Man, what’s going on…Plex is down, forum links are all weird??
Direct link

Thx, that’s worked…reading now.
So I’m supposed use Putty then (I’m on Win10)? What is sudo though?
Well, I’m getting nowhere. Entered my NAS IP address in Putty and I get an error.
There really should be some basic, super simple step-by-step instructions for newbies. I can’t believe I’m the ONLY one here who can’t make sense of this??
I would suggest that you take a look at this tutorial from QNAP. Describes what is needed for SSH on QNAP (how you enable it) and how to connect to your NAS with putty.exe
.
https://www.qnap.com/en/how-to/faq/article/how-do-i-access-my-qnap-nas-using-ssh
Thanks! That does look helpful and more accessible
I’ll have a look…
It’s OK, I’m old too.
I write slow because I know these young kids don’t read fast
LOL
If Dane22’s tool works, use it too. either way. Both perform the same task.
I’m having a problem with Putty. Got the Tar file extracted on my share folder.
Then when i run the sudo command I get No such file or directory even though I can clearly see the UserCredentialReset.sh file when i browse using WinSCP. Any help?
Hem…thanks but that wasn’t very helpful.
Also, I’m confused…are you saying that there are two different solutions being offered to solve this issue? Your and Dane22 both have different tools that are equally effective in solving this Plex access problem? I haven’t seen Dane22’s then?
Anyway, more pragmatically. I’m stuck early on in the process:
I fire up Putty, enter my NAS IP address, give it my admin account’s name, copy/paste the password but it still denies me access…what am I missing here?
