Cannot claim server, cannot access Plex, please help!

Server Version#:4.30.2
Player Version#:1.19.4

Hello, I have searched and searched and have not been able to find the issue and fix it.

I have had plex running on my PC with standard spectrum internet. We recently had an issue where our spectrum router was fried so I picked up a netgear Nighthawk R6400v2. Since purchasing the new router, I cannot access my Plex library.

The first issue was I couldn’t even access my settings or anything on the server. I was getting a blank plex screen and I couldn’t check my media etc.

I did some searching and some suggestions were to delete 4 items from the plex registry. I did this and restarted Plex and was able to get into the server but there were caution signs next to my movies and tv show sections. The warning was that there was an unclaimed server and its not secure. When I clicked the claim it now, it acts like its doing it, then stops and the button is just there to push, nothing happens after this.

Im now at a loss on what to do. Not many searches are turning up this same issue so im hoping I can have some fresh eyes look at this. Anything would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Try clearing your browser cache.

Yeah, didnt work

Im at a loss, anyone with some help on this?

repeat the steps you went through that allowed you to go through the claim server sequence - only this time get server logs when it fails

so first make sure debug logging is enabled
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

then resrtart the server and go through the steps and when it fails to complete the claim server. get the server logs zip

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-07-12_20-37-29.zip (1015.0 KB)

Here are the logs attached. I want to note that after trying to claim the server, the settings for the server that appear on the left hand side of the page, after clicking settings (On top right) are not there. I was able to download the logs before claiming server.

I am also going to upload logs that I was able to export to notepad that took place after I clicked claim server. PlexLogs_After_ClaimServer.txt (114.7 KB)

Thanks for the logs - the second log - the one you exported to notepad is from Plex Web - which is good to have as well.

I would like to see a matching set of logs so i can compare the times for what plex Web does and what Plex Media Server does when the claim server is done.

I see you have secure connections disabled. Could you try with it set to Preferred.
Also after the claim is made. Could you either refresh the browser by pressing F5 or close the browser session and relaunch and see if plex web now has access to the server

The logs show plex web getting authentication errors

so i suggest the following and to get both server logs and plex web log.
For plex web, let change the logging level to verbose (settings / web / show advanced / debug and select verbose logging and save changes)

For server logs, we leave it as debug level (settings / server / general / show advanced)

When deleting keys in the registry, please note down the time - so log entries can be interpreted with the right context

once you reproduce the problem with exporting the verbose plex web log to notepad, then get the server logs - copy out the contents of
C:\Users\spenc\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
and zip the copy

and do then try the F5 refresh on the browser to see if it manages then to access the server. Get another set of logs (web + server) at this point if it does succeed now

Thank you so much for the reply. I am attaching both sets of logs here -

Plex Server Logs.rar (6.3 MB) Plex Web Server Logs - 5_06pm.txt (267.4 KB)

Started the process at 5:06pm EST today.

I wasnt able to find the “Preffered connection” setting unfortunately.

server settings
network
Secure Connections - change disabled to preferred

I will look at the new diagnostics tomorrow - late now here

In one of the logs when the server was restarted - it appeared as already claimed. Just wondering if the issue here is that after the claim which does not appear as successful, closing the Plex Web browser window and restarting the server might actually get round the issue and then with a fresh browser plex web session - may be even signing out in Plex web (top right corner drop-down) and signing in may then pick up the server that appeared as unclaimed but was actually claimed

So I gave this a shot and seems to have the same issue as before. Matter of fact, when I close plex after claiming the server, restart server and go back to it, I get a “Your homescreen is empty” message and it gives me very little ability to change anything. The only way I can get back to the main server side settings is to do the registry editor.

If you are using Plex Web, you should be able to sign out from Plex Web and sign in again - after claim and then restarting the server, look for the Plex Web account sign out

(By the way - are you claiming the server through browser going to
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
or
https://app.plex.tv/desktop
Should try to use the http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you have not

This is the place where you sign out Plex Web session - top right corner in browser
image

Yeah, ive used both links to access Plex… Logged out, back in, etc etc and nothing is working to claim the server.

After the first claim after you delete the registry - the server appears to be claimed - so should not need a claim again

So after this close down all plex web browsers

restart the server

and then launch the browser, go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web

if this is signed in (top right corner drop down) - sign out
and sign in again in plex web

if still a problem. get me verbose log of this and do not make any more changes to registry - might give us more info if you enable browser dev console (F12) after you launch the browser and then in addition to the Plex Web - save network log and send it to me privately - also export of the registry area for Plex Media Server - exported as text and zip and send me privately

As a separate test - can you start browser incognito private session and go to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web and see if you can get to the server when you sign in

(lets just use 127.0.0.1 at this stage for all the tests)

Ive tried the incognito browse session and it did not work. Im not sure how to get the network log. Can you walk me through that?

what do you mean by “it did not work” ?

For browser dev console logging there is a section about it here
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201611836-plex-web-app-logs/

Verbose Web Logs.txt (662.7 KB)

Here attached are the web verbose logs and the console logs -

As for running the same tests in an incognito browser, I still experienced the server not being able to be claimed and cannot access my media.

I removed the console log in case there are tokens.

Could you provide the corresponding server logs zip please

Did you make any changes to the registry - deleting items ? if you did, exactly what time?

I did before I did all these tests. about 7:28pm
