Can't claim Server

Server Version#: Plex Version 4.87.2 on Windows 11.
Player Version#:

I have just format my computer. I have migrate and installed Plex from my PlexMediaServer-1.30.2.6563-3d4dc0cce-x86_64.exe file. All my movies are on my Plex, but no metadata from imdb, so dont see pictures or data, just the title.

My server isnt claimed, but Nothing happens when i click on claim server.

I have tried to check host files on my computer, but nere is nothing from Plex. I have done clean istallation and removing plex from reg.edit, but same problem. I have tried to close my VPN.

I have also installed the latest version - PlexMediaServer-1.31.1.6782-77dfff442-x86_64.exe. after clean plex installation, but then i just get an error square and cant even open plex media server.

Is there anybody who can help me?

Am having a similar problem. Initial install, server is created but cannot be claimed. Error message instructs me to post a message here in the forums, along with the log file (attached).

Am at a bit of a loss, as I have never encountered this situation. Grateful for any help you can give.

Geoff

Now it has gotten worse.

I get an error-box every time I try to open Plex, so I cant even open Plex.

first: you have verbose logging on which means your logs are useless. (for everyone reading this NEVER TURN VERBOSE ON)

my first thought would be adblocking or DNS issues. Can you disable verbose logging and repost your logs?

What is your error message? Just saying you get an error without including the message makes it hard to troubleshoot

I dont know how turn off Verbose and where do i find my logs that you want?

I have turned off my VPN and firewall. I have tried some things that i read on

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/m639db/plex_literally_just_says_error_on_startup_see_pic/

that had the same problem. Removing Plex folder, re-installing etc.

The message is just error. Nothing else, same as the picture on reddit.

That is usually caused by either

  • an invalid storage location of the Plex data folder is referenced in the Registry
  • port 32400 is occupied by another app (FTP servers or Torrent clients are usual offenders). Close/disable these before trying to start Plex server.

Use the registry file in “Method 2.2” in the article You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

This support article about server logs explains where to fetch them manually.

Alternatively, follow the procedure for complete uninstallation https://support.plex.tv/articles/201941078-uninstall-plex-media-server/

Thank you.

I tried Metod 2.2. It didnt work. I still get the error message. I guess its a problem with the storage location.

I had my Plex data folder on another place before and did merge the old reg edit file, so it probably pointing to wrong folder.

Is there any way to fix that so its pointing to the standard location
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server? or if you could give me instructions how to install again with my reg edit file so all my info will follow. after ive uninstalled it correctly?

I tried the Registry Editor procedure to claim the server, no joy.

Current error message: A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.

Disabled verbose logging and attempted to claim server again. Non-verbose material at the end of the log file? Sorry, not familiar with the protocol, or whether trying to edit the log file would be wise.

Thanks for all your help!

Edited to add that it appears I cannot disenable verbose logging? I checked, and on trying (through the Plex Windows Media Player interface) to uncheck the option, I can uncheck it but the Save button returned an “Unable to Save Changes” message. I have tried again to uncheck verbose logging, additionally uncheck Support Away Mode, and changes log as having saved. Will upload latest log file now, as it seems I may have finally gotten verbose logging to turn off.

It should do that after the uninstallation.

Alternatively, you could simply delete the key from the registry which points to the invalid data folder location. [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

I read your guide and simply removed the path file i had in reg edit, Everything works fine now. Thank you so much for your help! :heartbeat:
