I can see my movies in my library on my Apple TV and on my Mac, but playback has quit on both Apple TV and MacBook Pro. Playback was working fine until I did the following updates/upgrades today:
Running Synology DS418 Play.
I just changed my password (per notification on August 23).
I use a new 64 GB Apple TV and my MacBook Pro to access video and music content on the NAS/Plex server.
Computer, NAS, and Apple TV are on the same network.
I just upgraded to Synology DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 2.
I just upgraded to Plex Server 1.21.0-3744 on the Synology NAS.
I just get “Playback Error: Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted” message.
I’ve logged out of both the server and web app and re-logged in on both. Nothing changed.
I’ve spent a couple hours trying to get this to work and am very frustrated now. I’m really frustrated as a Lifetime Member that I can no longer directly contact Plex Technical Support…
Did you just upgrade the Syno from DSM6 to DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 2?
Could you attempt upgrading your server to the current version of PMS? Version 1.21.0 is approx. 2 years old. The latest public release is version 1.29.2 (released approx. 1 month ago).
Yes, just upgraded from DSM6 to DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 2.
I had upgraded PMS, but apparently I somehow chose an older version. I just upgraded PMS to “Installed Version” 1.30.0.6442-7000. The PMS page in Synology says “Newest online version: 1.21.0.3744 (beta).” I couldn’t upgrade the app on Synology DMS, so I had to delete the app, download the newest version manually and re-install it manually.
Then I fixed permissions in DSM. Then the new Apple TV wouldn’t work and I could find a way to change network settings, so I deleted the Plex app from Apple TV and re-installed it. Then it worked.
Plex asked me to upgrade libraries which I did, but then it wiped out all my manually downloaded and curated artwork on movies even though I have the checkbox checked to use local art files. That’s a nuisance.
Thanks for your help. It took me 3 to 4 hours to upgrade Synology, all the apps, deleted apps no longer supported, upgrade Plex, fix permissions, fix Apple TV, etc. This sure isn’t for the faint of heart or people who do this every couple of years.
Is there a way to re-order libraries on the left side of the Plex screen on the Mac web app? They appear to be in alphabetical order (Movies, Music, Playlists, TV Shows) and I don’t see a way to re-order them.
Thanks a lot for your help getting me going again!
