My Plex server works only through a browser

My Plex server can be viewed through browser on a computer, ipad, Android.
When I try to view it through the app it says it cannot connect to any of my movies or any of my TV shows it was working great up until about 3 weeks ago. I cannot seem to figure this out please help

Mind sharing some more details about your particular setup/issue?

e.g.:

  • what version of Plex Media Server do you have installed?
  • with which exact apps / platforms are you experiencing this behavior (Plex app version, Platform version, e.g. tvOS 14 or 15)?
  • where exactly do you get this error message (e.g. when attempting to play a video or already when attempting to navigate/access the server to begin with)?

I am running version 1.18.5.2309 on my server. I’ve tried to upload to the latest version I can’t seem to figure out how to do that on Synology server. But that’s another issue.

When I try to use the app on my shield, Android phone, Apple iPad I cannot get it to work at all. But if I go through a browser it seems to work.

In that case you should absolutely update your server. Version 1.18.5 is from early 2020… that release is almost 2 years old!

  1. Download the current version of PMS for your particular NAS architecture from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server.
    Make sure to get the right version depending if your NAS has an Intel or ARM chip

  2. Log into your DSM and open Package Center

  3. Stop the Plex Media Server package

  4. Click Manual Install and follow the procedure, uploading the package you got from plex.tv

Upgrading from 1.18.5 to 1.24.3 is quite a step. It might take a few moments for Plex to perform all the database upgrades after you restart the package – so don’t worry if it takes that moment to react properly when accessing it through the web interface or apps.

I am having problems getting to my Synology and I can’t seem to get into there to upgrade. I’ve tried numerous times to upgrade to the latest version and I can’t seem to do that once I get into this Synology.

I have now installed the latest version of Plex. Now I cannot seem to connect my media to Plex. Any suggestions. What I read online says I need to have the Plex reclaim the server I cannot seem to figure out how to do that. Thank you again for all your help

  1. Open http://[Syno-NAS IP address]:32400/web in your browser
  2. Go to Settings > [Server Name] > General
  3. Check if there’s a section like Server signed in as <your user name> with an option to sign-out. If you don’t have an option, there should be an option to sign-in instead.

That worked perfectly still can’t see my media. Any suggestions
